About Melissa

Having grown up in the Sussex countryside, I eventually hung up my wellies and set off on what was meant to be a three-month adventure to South Africa. Nearly five years later, Africa had well and truly taken hold of me. Over the past 20 years, I have been fortunate enough to explore much of Southern and East Africa, from the floodplains of Botswana and the open plains of Kenya and Tanzania, to the rainforests of Uganda, the ever-surprising landscapes of Namibia, and the cheeky lemurs of Madagascar. South Africa remains especially close to my heart, with family ties in both Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal, so it is somewhere I return to as much as possible. While Africa will always be my first love, I have also travelled through India, Peru and Mexico, always curious to experience the different wildlife and cultures around the world. I also love escaping to parts of Italy where English is rarely spoken, there is something rather special about finding yourself somewhere completely local and off the beaten track. For me, it is all about designing journeys that are luxurious, yet offer unique experiences and open the door to the places I know and love so well.

Madagascar

Having long been on my bucket list, I’m thrilled to have finally visited this wild & remarkable island. Madagascar’s coasts are so beautifully contrasting, each offering something so different. Exploring Isalo felt like stepping into another era, think Jurassic Park but with incredible lemurs! In Andasibe-Mantadia, the call of the indri echoing through the jungle will be a moment I never forget. This destination is an adventure enhanced by the incredible people & astonishing diversity at every turn.

NEXT DESTINATION IS…

Botswana

Botswana was the first place I experienced a safari, when I was still bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and it’s a big part of why Africa captured my heart. My next trip is all about seeing how it’s changed over the years, from the evolution of the camps and lodges to the impact of fluctuating water levels on the wildlife and landscapes. I’m looking forward to rediscovering those magical moments
