A tiny volcanic rock in the middle of the Atlantic, best known as Napoleon’s place of exile, St Helena is a heady mix of staggering scenery, incredible wildlife and fascinating human history.

Why Travel to St Helena

If you are looking to visit somewhere out of the ordinary, this is the place – it also makes the perfect extension to any trip to Africa. For many, there will be an obvious draw to the place where Napoleon spent his final six years and where, it is said, he was thoroughly miserable, before passing away in 1821.

Yet there is so much more to this island. Humpback whales visit in vast numbers from June to December, closely followed by whale sharks from December to May. The hiking takes you through cloud forests and colourful lunar-esque landscapes unique to this volcanic outcrop.

The bird life seems to change with every valley you pass through, from the seabirds to land nesting endemics. Then there are the warm-hearted people and the unique feeling of utter escapism to one of the most remote places on earth. Travel to St Helena to discover all this and more for yourself.
