In the jungle I saw inter alia 53 bird species. The alia included 7 monkey species, a couple of anacondas, a boa constrictor and numerous unlikely insects, not least a staggeringly lovely iridescent morph butterfly at the end of its life. After that, in the northern Sierra, coastal plain and Galapagos, I saw another 73 bird species (my father would be envious) together with multitudinous mammals, fish and reptiles, including the famous and stuffed Lonesome George.
