Luxury Kenya Itinerary

Kenya: From City to Savannah and Sand

Possibly the most diverse travel destination in Africa, Kenya’s low plains rise up from a stunning coastline to central highlands bisected by the fascinating Great Rift Valley to host a spectacular range of habitats and wildlife.

From the migratory herds of the Masai Mara to tropical rainforests, rugged North Frontier Mountain terrain and ivory white beaches fringing the Indian Ocean, our 12 day Kenya itinerary provides an array of natural wonders to enchant every traveller.

The Swahili people along the coast and the Bantu groups of the southeast date back to at least 3,000 BC, but this all feels like yesterday in the context of the early humans evidenced in the region some 1.2 million years ago. It’s no surprise that Kenya is known as the “Cradle of Mankind”.

Today eco-tourism is central to the nation’s economy and our trips promote projects developed in conjunction with local tribes, designed to preserve the country’s natural resources and benefit local communities. While you can feel good knowing your travels are supporting the land and its people, you’ll also enjoy premium Kenyan style and comfort throughout.

Visit Nairobi’s elephant orphanage and giraffe preservation centre, before flying to the Laikipia Plateau’s conservation haven to relax by the pool for an ‘armchair safari’ watching wildlife at the waterhole below. Then it’s on to the famously wildlife rich Masai Mara for a couple of days of unique safari experiences, before a final three days on the Kenyan coast exploring the spectacular marine life of the Indian Ocean, snorkelling, diving, kite surfing, paddling or just soaking in the Kenyan sun on white sand beaches.

The itinerary

Sundowner on Pride Rock

kenya itinerary involves delights for sundowners

Step away from the safari vehicle to discover the sights, smells and sounds of Borana Conservancy on an e-bike ride, before returning to the lodge for breakfast and a late morning of leisure. Enjoy lunch at the lodge before departing on a guided bush walk enroute to the famous site that inspired the Lion King – Pride Rock – and take in panoramic views of Borana Conservancy during a traditional ‘sundowner’.

Mountain bike through Borana Conservancy

Borana bikes

After a leisurely late-morning and afternoon at the lodge, set off to discover Naretoi Conservancy – away from the safari vehicle – on a mountain bike. Bikes give guests the opportunity to travel long distances at their own pace surrounded by nature, while hills and valleys provide the perfect terrain for adrenalin-fuelled adventures.

Visit a school and traditional Maasai village

Masai school children

The Borana Education Support Programme promotes education and literacy in local communities and inspires young Kenyan minds to see the value of conservation and the environment. Visiting one of these schools gives beautiful insight into the lives of local children. While visiting a traditional village, a Maasai elder will give a tour and describe the history of the Maasai tribe, before members of the community demonstrate customary ways of life, traditions and dance.

Hot air balloon safari over Masai Mara

hot-air balloon kenya itinerary

Rise in the early morning for a once in a lifetime experience floating above the Masai Mara in a hot air balloon. Watching the wildlife wake while the sun rises over the plains is the ultimate safari experience, the landscape below a never-ending mixture of riverine forests, sprawling savannahs, towering escarpments and rugged rivers.

Farm tour at Borana Lodge

Dish you can taste on a family safari in Kenya

Nestled on the eastern bank of the Ngare Ndare River at Borana Conservancy, Waitabit Farm is the largest Permaculture project in East Africa. Waitabit produces most of the fresh produce used at Borana Lodge as well as providing the anti-poaching team with fresh vegetables. Guests come away from a visit to the farm not only with a wealth of knowledge of its innovative systems but also a real appreciation of localised food production.

R&R on Diani Beach

Spend three glorious days on one of Kenya’s most perfect beaches, exploring the spectacular marine life, snorkelling or scuba diving in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. For the adventurous, take to the waters on a kite surf, kayak or stand-up paddleboard. If you’re seeking quieter times just kick back and soak up the Kenyan sun on the white sand beaches or enjoy a spa treatment amongst the tropical gardens.
