Little, if anything, compares to the intense thrill of seeing a leopard at close quarters on a walking safari with one of our favourite guides in the game-rich South Luangwa Valley. And that’s only the start of a luxury safari in Zambia’s appeal.

Why travel to Zambia

Discover the home of walking safaris. Three great rivers, including the Zambezi, and an astonishingly rich and diverse spectrum of wildlife and habitats make this relatively under-developed country one of our go-to luxury safari destinations. Here, you still feel as if you are exploring something raw and untamed. The sense-tingling walking safari originated in Zambia and it is still the best place to explore the bush on foot.
As well as the incredible, thundering cascades of Victoria Falls, there are little-known corners that we can help you to explore: the bird-lovers paradise of Kafue; the beautiful Bangweleu Swamp and the gloriously remote North Luangwa.

Even more enticing than its scattering of excellent rustic-luxury camps, Zambia is home to some truly outstanding guides, most of whom we know personally. We are the experts when it comes to luxury African safaris in Zambia.

Food Fact

Have you ever heard of nshima? This Zambian delicacy is made by pouring maize flour into hot water. Nshima is a staple Zambian dish and is eaten pretty much every day and with everything. If you want to fit in with the locals, do not reach for a fork – as, with all local dishes, nshima is eaten with your hands.

Local lowdown

The world knows them as Victoria Falls. But did you know that one of the natural wonders of the world also has its original name? Before Scottish explorer David Livingstone spotted them and named them after his queen, the falls were given their name by the local Lozi tribe. They call them Mosi-oa-Tunya, which translates as Smoke that Thunders.

What our clients say

My latest cazenove+loyd adventure was a return to Africa in June 2018, this time to Zambia, Victoria Falls and Botswana. The plan was for three of us but at the very last minute, my friends had to cancel. I had special attention from the staff in each camp. There was a bottle of Champagne waiting at the hotel in Victoria Falls. These are the small touches that set c+l apart.

What our clients say

Thank you and your team very much indeed for your excellent organisation and implementation. Every one of our four locations was wonderful and proved to be the ideal combination. All your travel arrangements and support went like clockwork and the destinations – with good friends at every stop – could not have been more comfortable or beautiful.

What our clients say

It's hard to pick a highlight. I loved Hwange for being in a world where elephants are in charge, and Mana Pools for the open landscape and the profusion of the wildlife, and Matetsi for the position of the camp and the lovely people who work there. Victoria Falls felt more mainstream by comparison though when we walked to the gorge at the end of the falls I felt very moved by the unbelievable beauty of the place.
