Salar de Uyuni has a unique, mirror-like property that is visible during the rainy season. The vast, wet salt flats create an identical reflection of the landscape for one of the most incredible views you’ll ever see.

Experience highlights

  • Touching down in Peru allows time to acclimatise to the altitude before hitting Bolivia, where much of the country sits 4,000m above sea level. Lima is renowned for its gastronomic scene – ceviche and chocolate particularly – which you will explore via a guided street food excursion and over dinner at the capital’s finest restaurants.
  • After a flight to Iquitos, it’s all aboard the Aqua Amazon, for a four-night voyage taking in major highlights of the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. Go piranha fishing, trek into the dense jungle with experienced guides in search of monkeys, three-toed sloths, hoatzins, toucans, macaws and giant water lilies.
  • Next up, Arequipa, for a two-night rail journey to Cuzco on the Andean Explorer. Breeze past shimmering Lake Titicaca and traverse the highest plains of the Andes on South America’s finest luxury sleeper train, complemented by five-star service and exquisite cuisine.
  • Over a stay in the Sacred Valley, you’ll drink in the magic of the Sol y Luna guesthouse and visit its impressive charitable foundation.
  • Hop on the Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu. This ancient wonder needs no introduction, but you’ll explore it in true c+l style with an expert historian before kicking back at Sanctuary Lodge, a stylish retreat a stone’s throw from mystical ruins.
  • Over the course of two days back in Cuzco, dive into this fabulous city under the wing of one of our superb guides, sampling sensational Nikkei cuisine, uncovering rich culture and meeting a renowned resident ceramicist for an art class.
  • Experience the beauty of the pristine Uyuni salt flats and lagoons, staying in both a glamorous Airstream camper and glass solar-powered Star Dome. Bringing stargazers closer than ever to the heavens, ‘these new for 2023 geodesic structures’ are a lesson in marrying eco-friendly design with the ultimate in comfort and luxury.
c+l special?

At your disposal in Uyuni will be both a personal chef, who will tailor dreamy menus made with local, organic produce, as well as an astrologist that will divulge the secrets of the Andean Archeoastronomy around a campfire, as you enjoy a digestif.

Hotel Cirqa, Arequipa

Within the historical centre of Arequipa, Cirqa is a small private hotel that shares an age-old bond with the San Agustin Church. Like the Church’s traditional parador where monks would receive travellers with one-of-a-kind service and hearty cuisine, Cirqa offers unbounded hospitality and an insight into Arequipa’s longstanding history.

Originally founded in 1540, the latest constructional changes date from 1883. Made up of powerful walls, arches and columns, all made from the local volcanic sillar rock, the building has carefully been conserved. Its eleven rooms, centred around two patios, are each individually decorated. The restaurant, exclusively for guests, serves traditional Arequipean countryside fayre and the rooftop eatery is open to the public.

Belmond Andean Explorer Train

The Belmond Andean Explorer is a remarkable luxury train that journeys through the breathtaking landscapes of Peru, offering an unparalleled travel experience. Belmond Palacio Nazarenas, Cuzco

Belmond Palacio Nazarenas, Belmond's latest addition in Peru, is a tranquil hotel perfectly located in a quiet plaza just behind Cuzco’s main square and close to the buzzing atmosphere of San Blas. Suites have stunning views of the hillsides or the cathedral in the Plaza de Armas and have their own private ipads for information on the city. The restaurant offers delicious contemporary Peruvian food, which is nothing short of exquisite.

Sol y Luna, Sacred Valley

Located in the heart of Peru's Sacred Valley, set against the backdrop of stunning Andean landscapes is Sol y Luna, one of our all-time favourite lodges.

The lodge's rooms and suites each offer stunning views of the surrounding Andean mountains and the historic ruins of Machu Picchu. You can wake up to the awe-inspiring sight of the sun rising over the citadel, offering a magical start to your day. One of the main draws of the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge is its immediate proximity to Machu Picchu where you have the unique advantage of being able to visit the site at different times of day, including during less crowded early mornings and late afternoons when day-trippers have left.
