Luxury Indonesia Itinerary

Islands of Diversity

One of the most diverse environments on earth, Indonesia’s palette covers white sands, blue seas and lush green forest landscapes.

As well as some of the world’s most celebrated spiritual and cultural icons, our island-hopping itinerary for Indonesia provides guests with delicious comfort and insider-access to many of this mystical country’s lesser-known treasures.

After checking into the lavish comfort of Yogyakarta’s Plataran Borobudur Resort, you’ll explore Java’s cultural capital – from the world’s largest Buddhist monuments and the Sultan’s Palace to Beringharjo Market and the Prambanan Temple Complex. It’s then on to Bali where you’ll float into the serenity of Ubud with a leisurely bike tour through terraced villages, verdant rice fields and traditional Balinese art communities. Our local expert here will deliver a lecture on ‘the Seven temples and meditation sites’, before guiding you through these sites, rarely seen by visitors or the Balinese.

After trying your hand at some traditional farming techniques and visiting a local school, it’s time to jump aboard your chartered catamaran to Nusa Lembongan where you can relax with a massage, sunbathe on golden sands or head out for snorkelling, scuba diving and parasailing in Lembongan Bay.

Visiting the famous Uluwatu Temple, perched high atop cliffs looking out over the Indian Ocean, you’ll have the chance to see an impressive traditional Kecak dance. Finally, as your adventure draws to a close, you’ll enjoy one more unforgettable dinner, this time overlooking Jimbaran Bay where the cuisine, atmosphere and view combine to create yet another blissful memory of your journey through this mesmerising land.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Balinese goddess of rice, called Dewi Sri, is also the goddess of fertility, which shows just how important rice is to Balinese religious culture.

The itinerary

Borobudur and Selogriyo Temple

As well as visiting Selogriyo Temple on the hillside of Mount Sumbing, you’ll be seeing the largest Buddhist monument in the world: Built around the 9th century in ‘the garden of Java’, the magnificent Borobudur lies between two volcanoes, where it lay buried under volcanic ash for centuries until being rediscovered and uncovered in the early 19th century.

City Tour & Prambanan Temple

Visit the Sultan’s Palace and the adjacent ‘Taman Sari’ water palace and garden, continue on to Beringharjo Traditional Market for shopping and lunch, before being taken to the Prambanan temple complex. This is the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia, with its towering 47-metre-high (154 ft) central building inside a huge complex of individual temples.

Enlightenment at the Seven Temples

Meet Bapak Anong Ishmail, curator of the Sukarno Museum, leading expert on the ancient temples and monuments of the World Heritage listed Pakerisan River, and ‘our man in Sukarno’! He and his team of expert guides will lead you through an exclusive tour of the incredible ‘seven temples and meditation sites’, rarely seen by visitors or the Balinese.

Balinese Farming & Kehen Temple

Meet the villagers of Guliang Kawan for a simple Balinese breakfast before joining them to learn about their traditional farming and irrigation methods, and visiting a local elementary school. Then on to Kehen Temple, constructed in the 13th century and adorned with elephant sculptures, a curious addition for the time, given elephants have never been native to Bali.

Bongkasa Cycling

A relaxing cycle through untouched rice terraces and villages dotted with traditional houses and temples. Stop to meet friendly locals, take photos of scenic spots and learn about the local culture. Afterwards you’ll be driven to Puri Taman Sari, a traditional Balinese compound belonging to the royal family of Mengwi, for a traditional Balinese lunch.

Sunset over Uluwatu & Kecak Dance

Visit the southern-most tip of Bali to visit the famous Uluwatu Temple, dramatically perched on a cliff looking out over the Indian ocean. From here you can witness the Kecak dance, a traditional display featuring up to a hundred male performers, forming a circle and swaying and chanting to hypnotic music.
