Visit the Republic of Congo deep in the heart of Africa, an enigmatic destination steeped in literature and legend, and a land of profound contrasts. The landscape is marked by sprawling rainforests, plateaus merging into savannah and mountainous terraces, all punctuated by the mighty Congo River, one of the world's longest waterways.

Why travel to the Congo

This lush region is rich in biodiversity, home to numerous species unseen elsewhere, from bonobos to okapis, alongside abundant native flora. A journey into Virunga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, reveals the spectacular massifs of Rwenzori and Virunga Mountains, which contain the two most active volcanoes in all Africa.

Ripe for thrilling excursions both on water and on land, it’s possible to trek to the summit of Mount Nyiragongo, an active volcano that boasts the largest lava lake in the world, or cruise along the Congo River, in search of elusive creatures and gorgeous vistas, all to the tune of glorious birdsong on our bespoke Congo holidays.

The heritage of the Congo is rooted in its people. The locals, known as Congolese, are as diverse as the ecosystem surrounding them, with a multitude of tribes each sporting distinct languages, cultures and traditions. Their resilience is a testament to their history, having weathered waves of political instability and economic strife. A mention must also go to the sapeurs, dapper fashionistas who parade the streets of Brazzaville and Kinshasa, exploring self-expression through fashion, style and art.
A living tapestry of nature and culture, interwoven with threads of historical complexity and tenacious human spirit, the Congo offers unique potential for anyone looking for more from their tailor-made safari.

Lango Camp, Odzala-Kokoua National Park

Lango camp is set on the edge of the forest on the outskirts of the Lango Bai with access to the savannah as well as the Lekoli and Mambili rivers.

The camp has been carefully constructed to leave as light a footprint as possible in this remote and delicate forest environment. There are just 6 tents raised 4 metres above the ground. Inspiration for their design came from the local Pygmy tribes' housing. Spend your days tracking forest elephants, spotting exotic birds and cruising the river at sunset. When night falls, retreat to your eco-friendly, uniquely designed suite and let the sounds of the jungle lull you to sleep.

Everything worked brilliantly from when I first shared our plans to the flight home. The arrangements to get us to the wedding were excellent and our drivers in Nairobi were helpful, courteous and a pleasure to travel with. Samburu was fantastic and a great recommendation. Hopefully one day there will be the possibility of travelling again.
