Luxury Jordan Itinerary

The Spectacular Contrasts of Jordan

Our Jordan itinerary takes you on a journey through a Kingdom which has captivated explorers for millennia. From the dazzling starkness of Wadi Rum to the story-telling ruins of bygone civilisations and the rejuvenating Dead Sea – Jordan is a land of spectacular contrasts.

Relax at the luxurious St Regis hotel before exploring Amman’s restaurants, museums and galleries. You’ll go on to visit the Decapolis cities, including Jerash, the ‘Pompeii of the East’, and Gadara, now known as Umm Qais.

Further north are the ancient fortresses and palaces of the desert region and the fresco art and zodiac dome of Qasr Amra baths, fortress-like Qasr Karana, the Roman fort turned residential palace at Qasr el Hallabat and the Roman/Medieval Islamic fort at Azraq.

See Mount Nebo, Madaba and its famous ancient map of sixth 6th century Jerusalem and the Dana Nature Reserve with its spectacular scenery and endangered wildlife. Hike through Wadi Araba, and horse ride to the entrance of the lost city and Petra’s most impressive monument, el Khazneh, as well as hundreds of other carved structures, soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs and burial chambers.

Camp at Wadi Rum where you can visit Lawrence Spring, Khazali Canyon and Burdah Rock Bridge – on horse or camel-back, if you desire. There’ll be plenty of ‘leisure days’ interspersed throughout the itinerary, however one final highlight we insist on spoiling you with in Aqaba is a yacht trip on the Red Sea, including snorkelling, diving and a BBQ lunch.

The itinerary

Petra on horseback

Be guided on horseback to the lost city and The Siq, a winding fissure through immense overhanging cliffs that takes you to el Khazneh. This is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity, carved out of the solid rock from the side of a mountain, and marks the start of your journey through hundreds of Petra’s carved and built structures, soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs, a carved Roman theatre and burial chambers.

Arrival in Wadi Rum

Join a local Bedouin for a jeep ride into the desert’s lunar landscape and the less-visited sites en route to Jebel Burdah. Check in to your camp for lunch and a camel trek then, as day turns to night, sense the dramatic change in temperature and the desert’s colour palette while the Bedouin prepare the fire and a sumptuous meal. Enjoy an evening around the campfire in the luxury Star Lounge, looking up at constellations, shooting stars and the Milky Way.

Explore the desert castles

Travelling with your guide, make your way towards the northern region of Jordan, passing through the vast expanse of desert landscape scattered with ancient fortresses, castles and palaces. Learn the fascinating history and unique stories of each one as you explore their ruins.

Hike to view Wadi Araba and visit to Shoback Castle

You’ll embark on a 2-hour morning hike with your local guide to view Wadi Araba. En route, you’ll find magnificent sandstone and limestone formations, including beautiful views of the nature reserve. You’ll then be transferred to visit crusader castle in Shoback before you continue to Petra.

Mount Nebo and Madaba

According to tradition, Mount Nebo is the mountain from which the prophet Moses looked over into the Promised Land, and indeed, when the weather is kind you can see Jerusalem about 60 kilometres away. South of Amman you will find Madaba, a 4000-year-old archaeological site, where you’ll visit the city’s main attraction – the famous detailed map of sixth century Jerusalem.

Private Yacht trip in Aqaba

Enjoy a five-hour private yacht trip with an instructor, including snorkelling, diving equipment and a BBQ lunch. Keep your eyes out for schools of fish, coral and even a sunken ship.
