Be guided on horseback to the lost city and The Siq, a winding fissure through immense overhanging cliffs that takes you to el Khazneh. This is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity, carved out of the solid rock from the side of a mountain, and marks the start of your journey through hundreds of Petra’s carved and built structures, soaring temples, elaborate royal tombs, a carved Roman theatre and burial chambers.

Join a local Bedouin for a jeep ride into the desert’s lunar landscape and the less-visited sites en route to Jebel Burdah. Check in to your camp for lunch and a camel trek then, as day turns to night, sense the dramatic change in temperature and the desert’s colour palette while the Bedouin prepare the fire and a sumptuous meal. South of Amman you will find Madaba, a 4000-year-old archaeological site, where you’ll visit the city’s main attraction – the famous detailed map of sixth century Jerusalem.
