Highlights

  • Private Island Setting – Nestled on a remote island in the Zambezi River, Sindabezi Lodge offers an intimate escape surrounded by untouched wilderness. With only five chalets, the lodge ensures privacy, tranquillity, and a deep connection with nature, where the sounds of the river and wildlife replace modern distractions.
  • Eco-Luxury Accommodation – Designed with sustainability in mind, the open-fronted chalets provide uninterrupted views of the river while maintaining a minimal environmental impact. Solar-powered lighting, natural building materials, and open-air bathrooms create a harmonious balance between luxury and conservation, allowing guests to immerse themselves in nature without sacrificing comfort.
  • Abundant Wildlife – From the lodge itself, guests can observe elephants wading through the river, hippos basking in the shallows, and a variety of bird species flitting through the trees. Game drives in nearby Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park offer encounters with white rhinos, zebras, and antelope, while river safaris reveal crocodiles and playful otters.
  • Proximity to Victoria Falls – Just a short boat and road transfer away from Victoria Falls, one of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Guests can experience the falls from multiple perspectives—whether walking through the misty rainforest, taking a scenic helicopter flight, or embarking on a thrilling white-water rafting adventure along the Zambezi.
  • Candlelit Dinners on the River – Dining at Sindabezi is a magical experience, with meals served on floating platforms, private decks, or beneath the starlit African sky. Gourmet dishes are prepared using fresh, local ingredients, and the setting—illuminated by lanterns and the soft glow of the moon—creates an atmosphere of pure romance and relaxation.
  • Personalised Activities – A wide array of tailor-made excursions cater to every interest, from serene canoe trips along the river to exhilarating fishing expeditions for tigerfish. Guided nature walks provide insight into the local ecosystem, while village visits offer cultural immersion with warm interactions and traditional storytelling from the communities along the Zambezi.

Good to know

How to get there

Sindabezi Island is approximately 40 kilometres (25 miles) from Victoria Falls Airport (VFA) in Zimbabwe. The journey typically involves a road transfer of about 1 to 1.5 hours, including border formalities between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Alternatively, Sindabezi is around 30 kilometres (19 miles) from Livingstone Airport in Zambia, with a transfer time of approximately 30 minutes.

Are children welcome?

Sindabezi Island Lodge welcomes children aged 14 and older. Due to its secluded island location on the Zambezi River, with fast-flowing waters and the presence of wildlife such as crocodiles and hippos, the lodge maintains this age restriction to ensure the safety and comfort of all guests. Families with younger children might consider alternative accommodations better suited to their needs.

Giving back

Sindabezi Island Lodge is deeply committed to environmental sustainability and community engagement. Key aspects of their sustainability policy include:

  • Renewable Energy: The lodge operates entirely off the grid, utilising solar power for electricity and water heating, thereby minimising reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
  • Eco-Friendly Construction: Building materials are sourced from sustainable forests, and the lodge employs biodegradable cleaning products and guest amenities to reduce environmental impact.
  • Waste Reduction: Initiatives such as the Vivreau in-house bottling system have been implemented to significantly decrease plastic waste, eliminating approximately 20,000 plastic bottles annually.
  • Water Conservation: A custom-made purification plant recycles water for plant irrigation and supports local wildlife, ensuring responsible water usage.
  • Organic Sourcing: The lodge’s menu features fresh, seasonal produce grown in their own gardens or sourced locally, promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing carbon footprint.
  • Community Engagement: Sindabezi supports the Tujatane Community School, fostering environmental education and sustainable practices among students, and is involved in local community projects to promote eco-friendly living.
