Why visit Huế

Huế is Vietnam’s former imperial capital, set on the banks of the Perfume River. Its vast citadel, ancient pagodas and ornate royal tombs tell the story of the Nguyen emperors. History is everywhere, yet the city feels calm and unhurried.

Huế is also one of Vietnam’s great food cities. Many dishes were once prepared for the royal court, and the flavours remain delicate and refined. Between temple visits, river walks and nearby beaches, it offers a rich sense of culture and place.

Seven royal tombs

Huế is famous for the royal tombs of the Nguyen emperors including Tu Duc, Minh Mang and Khai Dinh. Most emperors designed their own tombs with distinctive layouts, gardens, lakes and temples to reflect their personality and beliefs about the afterlife. This is historically accurate.
