Good to know

How to get there

The camp is tucked away in a remote corner of southern Utah, near the Arizona border, yet remains surprisingly accessible with the right planning.

The nearest airport is Page Municipal Airport (PGA) in Arizona, just 25 minutes away by car, offering limited regional flights from Phoenix and Las Vegas. Private charters are also possible into Page for a seamless arrival.

Alternatively, most guests fly into Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS) or Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). From there, it’s a 4.5 to 5-hour drive, or we can arrange a private transfer or scenic flight direct to Page.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are very welcome at Under Canvas Lake Powell, and the camp is a fantastic option for adventurous families looking to experience the outdoors without giving up comfort.

Spacious safari-style tents can be set up with extra beds or connect with adjacent tents, making them ideal for families. The setting encourages children to explore freely and engage with nature, whether stargazing by the fire, spotting desert wildlife, or hiking nearby trails.

The camp offers easy access to family-friendly activities, including:

  • Kayaking or paddleboarding on Lake Powell

  • Exploring Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend

  • Guided hikes or scenic boat trips in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

  • Evening s’mores by the fire and stargazing with storytelling

There’s no kids’ club or formal programming, but the relaxed, open-air setting is designed to let families connect with the landscape and each other.

Giving back

Under Canvas Lake Powell has a strong sustainability ethos, designed to minimise environmental impact while immersing guests in nature. The camp is part of Under Canvas’s broader commitment to low-impact, eco-conscious travel, built around three core principles: leave no trace, conserve water, and tread lightly.

Key sustainability practices include:

  • Off-grid operations – The camp runs entirely on solar power, with no connection to the grid. This includes lighting, charging stations and operational systems.

  • Low water usage – Tents feature low-flow toilets, pull-chain showers and refillable water stations. Water use is carefully managed in this arid desert region.

  • Minimal infrastructure – Tents are built on raised decks with minimal foundations, allowing the land beneath to remain largely undisturbed. When the season ends, the entire site can be removed without lasting impact.

  • No single-use plastics – Guests are provided with reusable water bottles, and filtered water is available at all times.

  • Locally inspired design – Natural materials and neutral tones help the camp blend into its surroundings, preserving the visual integrity of the landscape.

Why we love Under Canvas, Lake Powell

This is an amazing opportunity to strip back the luxuries and step into the wilderness of southern Utah. Falling asleep under the stars, knowing that you will wake to the red rock cliffs being lit by the rising sun is simply magic.
