Massachusetts, known as the Bay State, is associated with a number of American firsts, including the Thanksgiving celebration in Plymouth in 1621, the first public park in Boston, and the founding of Harvard University in 1636. Boston also opened the first subway system in the United States in 1897. The state is the birthplace of basketball and volleyball, the home of the chocolate chip cookie, and is known for a lake with one of the longest place names in the world.

The Freedom Trail

Boston is home to the Freedom Trail, a two and a half mile route that links 16 sites connected to the American Revolution, making it one of the most historic walks in the United States.

OUR FAVOURITE TIME TO VISIT

Massachusetts is worth visiting in any season. Autumn (September to October) is the most popular, with forests and towns turning red, orange and gold, perfect for drives and walks. Summer (June to August) brings warm weather for beaches, Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Boston’s outdoor attractions. Spring (April to May) is quieter, with blooming gardens and milder temperatures. Winter (December to February) is cold but offers a slower pace and cozy cultural experiences, especially in the Berkshires.
