Why Visit the Missoula Region

The Missoula region is one of Montana’s most quietly spectacular areas — where mountains, rivers and forest converge in every direction, and outdoor adventure feels effortless and immersive. Surrounded by protected wilderness and glacial valleys, it offers both sweeping solitude and a sense of place rooted in nature.

This is the heart of western Montana, where the Blackfoot, Clark Fork and Bitterroot Rivers come together. The fishing is exceptional, the rafting wild in spring and serene by summer, and the hiking trails wind into pine-scented forests just minutes from your base. The Rattlesnake Wilderness, just north of Missoula, is a pristine pocket of high alpine lakes and wildlife-rich trails, while further afield, the Lolo Pass offers history, hot springs and mountain views.

Luxury stays are low-key and well integrated into the landscape — from riverside lodges to tucked-away cabins. It’s a region best explored slowly, with time for picnics by the water, days on horseback and evenings under clear mountain skies.

Whether you’re here to float the rivers, follow the route of Lewis and Clark or simply disappear into the scenery, the Missoula region delivers wild Montana in its purest, most unhurried form.

Osprey Country

Missoula, Montana is home to the largest population of nesting ospreys in the lower 48 states, thanks to its river-rich landscape.

Craft Beer

Missoula has one of the highest numbers of craft breweries per capita in the United States, with standouts like KettleHouse, Draught Works and Imagine Nation Brewing all deeply rooted in the local community.
