Deborah Niheza

Deborah Niheza is a passionate safari guide born and raised in Rwanda, where her fascination with nature began at a young age. As a child she was drawn to the small details of the natural world, the colours of plants, the calls of birds and the subtle signs of wildlife that many people overlook. Although she initially studied Business Management at university, she chose to follow her true interest and pursue a career in guiding.

An important influence early in her journey was the respected birder Kamugisha Kirenga, who helped nurture her curiosity about birds and the wider natural world. Through time spent learning alongside him, Deborah developed a deep appreciation for Rwanda’s landscapes and wildlife.

Today she guides across Rwanda and neighbouring countries, introducing travellers to the region’s remarkable diversity. In Akagera National Park she tracks lions and rhinos and interprets the behaviour of elephants, while in Rwanda’s forests she leads treks in search of gorillas and chimpanzees.

Despite being early in her career, Deborah has already earned recognition as one of Rwanda’s most promising guides and one of the few women working in the profession across East Africa.

She continues to refine her skills through FGASA training in Botswana, gaining experience across both East and Southern Africa’s guiding traditions. Deborah speaks English and Kinyarwanda and guides in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
