How to get there

Nile Safari Lodge can be reached by road, domestic flight or private helicopter. By road, the journey from Kampala takes approximately five hours, travelling via Masindi and through Murchison Falls National Park before arriving at the lodge on the southern bank of the Nile.

For those wishing to fly, scheduled and charter flights operate from Entebbe to either Bugungu or Pakuba airstrip. Bugungu is the closest airstrip, located around 25 minutes from the lodge, while Pakuba is approximately 40 minutes away by road transfer.

Giving back

Nile Safari Lodge is committed to responsible tourism and sustainable travel. It works to protect the environment, support local communities and preserve Uganda’s cultural heritage.

The lodge actively supports conservation in Murchison Falls National Park and helps protect biodiversity in the surrounding area. It also works closely with nearby communities to support long-term development and improve livelihoods.

Sustainability is central to how the lodge operates. Around 80% of its energy comes from solar power, generated by 120 solar panels. This powers lighting, water heating and other key systems. Water is taken from the River Nile and fully treated before use across the lodge.

The lodge supports wildlife conservation through the “Snares to Wares” project, which helps former poachers learn new skills. Wire snares are turned into wildlife sculptures, with sales supporting both conservation and the local community.

Guests can also experience local culture through weekly music performances, community walks and crafts made by local artisans. These activities help preserve and celebrate Ugandan heritage.

Nile Safari Lodge employs around 80% of its staff from nearby communities and provides training to build skills and long-term careers. It also supports local farmers by sourcing fresh produce nearby.

Other practices include an on-site organic greenhouse, refillable amenities, wastewater treatment and composting. The lodge also reduces plastic waste by providing reusable water bottles for guests.

What wildlife can you expect to see?

Murchison Falls National Park is home to four of the Big Five, including lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo, while rhinos can be seen at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Other notable wildlife includes Rothschild’s giraffes, hippos, crocodiles and more than 450 recorded bird species, including the rare shoebill stork, Goliath heron and African fish eagle.

Why we love Nile Safari Lodge

The lodge is in an incredibly beautiful location on the Nile; it feels truly magical. With just eight secluded bandas, it offers a wonderfully private and intimate safari experience. The experiences on offer here are also truly special, the wildlife is exceptional, having sundowners at the top of the falls is unforgettable, and visiting the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is brilliant too, as it is the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos!
