Good to know

How to get there

Karibu Guesthouse is reached in around 10 minutes by road from Entebbe International Airport, Uganda’s main international gateway. From the airport, the drive is short and straightforward, making it an ideal place to rest before or after a safari.

Are children welcome?

Karibu Guesthouse can accommodate families, with its Agama Cottage offering a more spacious option that may work well for those travelling with children.

Giving back

Karibu Guesthouse supports the local community primarily through employment and day-to-day sourcing. A team of around 23 staff, drawn from across Uganda, forms the backbone of the guesthouse, with many having worked there since its early days, providing long-term, stable employment.

The kitchen follows a seasonal, low-impact approach, combining produce from its own organic permaculture garden with fresh ingredients purchased daily from local markets, including vegetables, fish and meat. This helps support local suppliers while reducing reliance on long supply chains.

Operating on a small, low-density scale, the guesthouse maintains a light footprint in its garden setting, with an emphasis on simple, locally rooted hospitality rather than large-scale infrastructure.

What's Nearby?

Karibu Guesthouse is very well placed for exploring Entebbe and the wider Lake Victoria area.

The Entebbe Botanical Gardens are just a short drive away, offering peaceful lakeside walks beneath towering trees, with abundant birdlife and troops of colobus and vervet monkeys moving through the canopy. Established in 1898, they remain one of the area’s most rewarding green spaces to explore.

Lake Victoria lies close by, where sunset boat cruises follow papyrus-lined shores. This is a relaxed way to take in the water’s edge, with chances to see kingfishers, otters and traditional fishing activity as the light fades across the lake.

A visit to the Mabamba Wetlands can be arranged nearby, one of East Africa’s most important sites for shoebill storks. Exploring by canoe through narrow papyrus channels offers one of the most memorable wildlife encounters in the region.

Entebbe also offers the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, where rescued and rehabilitated wildlife can be seen up close, alongside conservation work focused on the country’s native species.

Why we love Karibu Guesthouse

Not only is Karibu Guesthouse in the most ideal location in Entebbe, it also has a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere, with a delightful team who create a genuinely personal stay. Be sure to also keep an eye out for the many bird species that visit the gardens.
