How to get there

The easiest way to reach Ikuka is a light aircraft flight, this takes between 2-3 hours from Arusha and you land around 40 minutes drive from the camp.

Are children welcome?

Children aged 7 and above are welcome at Ikuka Lodge, making it a great choice for families seeking a luxurious yet adventurous safari in Ruaha. Due to the wild and remote nature of the camp, the lodge is best suited for older children who can fully appreciate the safari experience.

Families booking with children under 12 are required to book a private safari vehicle, allowing for more flexible game drives tailored to younger guests. While there are no formal child-specific activities, expert guides engage young explorers by teaching them about tracking, wildlife behavior, and conservation.

With its open-sided suites and elevated position, Ikuka Lodge is ideal for families who appreciate adventure while still enjoying comfort and exclusivity.

Giving back

Ikuka Safari Camp is deeply committed to sustainability, focusing on environmental conservation, community engagement, and cultural preservation. The camp is designed to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings, utilizing locally sourced materials such as stone and thatch in its construction. To minimize its environmental footprint, Ikuka operates on solar power, providing sustainable energy for its operations. The camp also addresses waste management by implementing measures to reduce plastic usage; both guests and staff use reusable water bottles, and single-use plastics are actively avoided. Additionally, Ikuka collaborates with local conservation organizations, such as the Ruaha Carnivore Project and the Southern Tanzania Elephant Program, contributing to wildlife research and protection efforts. By employing local staff and supporting community development, Ikuka ensures that tourism benefits the surrounding communities, fostering a sustainable and inclusive approach to wildlife tourism.

What wildlife can you expect to see?

    • Big Cats: Lions (including large prides), leopards, and cheetahs, with Ruaha being home to one of the largest lion populations in Africa.
    • Elephants: One of East Africa’s largest elephant populations, often seen in large herds.
    • African Wild Dogs: A rare and highly endangered species that thrives in Ruaha.

Why we love Ikuka Safari Camp

There is something so authentic about Ikuka, perhaps it is the feeling of isolation or that it is so carefully designed and constructed to blend into the environment, or that the guides and staff are incredible. Put it all together and this camp feels so special.
