Highlights

  • Total immersion in the wild: Spend the night under canvas in remote locations where there are no lodges or roads — just wildlife, stars and silence.

  • Expert-guided walking safaris: Reach camp on foot with experienced guides and armed scouts, gaining a deeper connection to the land and its rhythms.

  • Simplicity done well: While stripped back, the camps offer real beds, warm showers, toilet tents and considered meals — nothing is perfunctory.

  • Privately located with zero footprint: Camps are set up exclusively for you, then taken down without trace. There is no fixed infrastructure.

  • Candlelit dinners and storytelling by the fire: Evenings are spent beneath the stars with excellent food, fine wine and no distractions — just the sound of the bush.

  • Rare access to untouched wilderness: Fly camping opens up parts of Tanzania that vehicles can’t reach, from hidden riverbeds to seasonal elephant trails.

Good to know

Do you have to hike to stay in a fly camp?

No, there are plenty of camps that you can drive to and the support team will be able to access nearly all the camps with vehicles, however, the vast majority of those in Northern Tanzania are in very remote corners and set up to support specific hiking routes.

Are children welcome?

Children over the age of eight are generally welcome, however this is assessed on a case by case basis.

How simple is it really?

By their very nature the fly camps are simple, having said that they are as comfortable as possible. The cot beds are around 18 inches off the ground and made up with warm duvets and there is room to stand up. The warm showers are effective and good enough to wash off a day’s hiking. Toilets are simple short drop (with a seat).

There is always a cold drink on arrival and a fire pit for the cool evenings and more than enough food to see anyone through the night.

Staff are on hand to make sure you’ve got everything you need as well as to pack it all down in the morning so as far as wild camping in the Arican bush goes, it’s actually very luxurious.

Why we love fly camping

While this might be the simplest accommodation there is luxury in location and space. These camps are in stunning locations and to have them to yourself is a huge privilege and a luxury in it’s own right.
