Country Highlights

Svalbard

Polar bears, Svalbard

June + July

During the June + July, Captain Arctic journeys deep into the Norwegian Arctic, spending much of its time exploring the wild landscapes of Svalbard. Known for its significant polar bear population, this remote archipelago is said to have more bears than people, offering excellent chances of sightings. Even without bears, Svalbard’s frozen tundra and icy fjords are home to a remarkable array of wildlife. Guillemot colonies nest on cliffs, Arctic foxes roam the shores, and walrus can often be seen lounging on drifting ice. Whales, including belugas, are frequently spotted in these rich, icy waters.

Eastern Greenland

Scoresbysund, Greenland

In August, Captain Arctic embarks on an expedition along Greenland’s dramatic coastline, where towering glaciers and colossal icebergs create a breathtaking landscape. Guests have the opportunity to explore secluded fjords by zodiac, trek across tundra adorned with wildflowers, and visit traditional Inuit communities to immerse themselves in local culture. The nutrient-rich waters attract various whale species, while seals can be seen resting on floating ice. Inland, musk oxen and Arctic foxes roam the rugged terrain, offering a truly immersive experience in this vast and pristine wilderness.

Northern Norway

Puffin Arctic

June sees the Captain Arctic sets course for the breathtaking coastline of Northern Norway, where jagged peaks rise above serene fjords. This voyage combines striking scenery with rich cultural encounters. Zodiac cruises reveal secluded inlets, while hikes through rugged terrain offer stunning views. Towering cliffs host bustling colonies of puffins and guillemots, and sea eagles are often seen gliding overhead. Visits to remote Norwegian fishing communities provide insight into their fascinating traditions, making this Arctic journey a perfect mix of nature and culture.
