Good to know

How to get there

Thotalagala is a five-hour drive from Colombo, offering a scenic journey through Sri Lanka’s lush countryside. Alternatively, guests can opt for a private charter flight to Haputale or a seaplane transfer to nearby Castlereagh, followed by a short drive to the property. The train journey from Colombo to Haputale is one of the most beautiful in the world and provides a slower, scenic way to arrive.

Are children welcome?

Thotalagala welcomes children of all ages. Families traveling with children are encouraged to book one of the suites, as three of the four suites are equipped with sofa beds.

Giving back

Thotalagala is deeply involved in the local tea industry, supporting sustainable farming practices and the welfare of estate workers. The hotel works closely with local communities, funding education initiatives and healthcare programmes for tea estate families. Their commitment to preserving the region’s heritage is evident in the careful restoration of the property and the support of conservation efforts in the surrounding highlands.

Why we love Thotalagala

Sipping a perfectly brewed Ceylon tea on the terrace at Thotalagala, with mist drifting over the hills, time seems to slow. The deep connection to Sri Lanka’s colonial tea heritage makes for a rare and refined experience in one of the country’s most scenic settings.
