Tekanda Lodge is approximately 2 hours 30 minutes by car from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). Guests can also take a domestic flight to Koggala Airport, just 15 minutes away. Private transfers are available, and helicopter charters can be arranged for a swift arrival.
Tekanda Lodge welcomes children over the age of six. The open-air design and natural setting make it best suited for older children and adults looking for a peaceful retreat.
Tekanda Lodge is committed to sustainability, using locally sourced materials such as reclaimed wood and traditional Sri Lankan iluk thatching to minimise its environmental impact. The lodge runs on solar power, sources water from an on-site well, and maintains organic tea bushes and coconut trees without chemical fertilisers to support biodiversity.
Beyond conservation, the lodge actively uplifts the local community through The Tekanda Foundation and its ‘Gamata Athak’ centre in Kathaluwa. The centre provides English and IT education, vocational training, and after-school sports programmes, with a strong focus on empowering women and girls. It also distributes essential food packages to vulnerable families. Guests and volunteers can contribute by teaching English or coaching sports, with comfortable board and lodging provided. Through these initiatives, Tekanda Lodge blends eco-luxury with meaningful social impact.
