Few & Far Luvhondo is located near the village of Waterpoort in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. Set in the Soutpansberg Mountains, the lodge is easy to reach in several ways.
By road, the lodge is around three hours from Hoedspruit and four and a half hours from Johannesburg or Pretoria.
Guests can also fly into Polokwane International Airport and continue by private transfer, with the journey taking about 90 minutes.
Guests can also arrive aboard the famous Rovos Rail, which stops at the property once a week upon special request on select journeys from Victoria Falls.
Private charter flights can also land at the lodge’s own airstrip.
Children of all ages are welcome at Few & Far Luvhondo. The Cliff Suites offer flexible bedding options, including cribs and extra beds for younger children.
The lodge’s Young Explorers programme introduces children to wildlife and conservation through guided nature walks, educational games, and wildlife tracking. Additional activities include clay modelling, snake handling, geocaching, and other hands-on experiences.
Families enjoy private safari vehicles and guides, allowing each game drive to be tailored to their interests and pace. Guides can adapt the experience to focus on the wildlife and activities that most engage younger guests.
Babysitting services are available, and the lodge can accommodate families travelling with a personal nanny. Dining is family-friendly, with flexible meal times, child-friendly options, and special dietary requirements catered for. Child seats for safari vehicles are also available to help ensure a safe and comfortable stay.
Few & Far Luvhondo combines conservation, sustainability, and community development to create a positive impact on both people and nature. The lodge’s registered 50-year carbon project aims to restore biodiversity in the Soutpansberg Mountains, where less than 1% of the region is formally protected. Its conservancy covers more than 20,000 hectares of wilderness, helping to protect and regenerate this unique landscape.
Through its rewilding programme, Few & Far Luvhondo plants seven species of indigenous trees, restores grasslands and shrublands, and removes invasive plants. The project currently focuses on 20,000 hectares of land and aims to regenerate more than 80,000 hectares within the next 10 years.
Sustainability is built into the lodge’s daily operations. The property is carbon negative, operates on a zero-waste philosophy, and is powered by 100% renewable energy. Single-use plastics are eliminated, water is bottled on-site, and food waste is converted into compost through a soldier fly programme. Fresh produce is grown in the lodge’s gardens or sourced from nearby farmers to reduce food miles.
The lodge also supports local communities by working with local partners to create jobs and economic opportunities. Its approach aims to benefit local artisans, small-scale farmers, and other community members while ensuring that tourism contributes to the region’s long-term wellbeing.
Wildlife at Few & Far Luvhondo reflects the rich biodiversity of the Soutpansberg Mountains within the Vhembe Biosphere Reserve. Guests may encounter giraffe, zebra and kudu, along with a variety of other antelope moving through the reserve. Leopard are present in the wider landscape and are the focus of ongoing conservation work, with dedicated tracking experiences available.
Smaller species such as Samango monkeys, baboons and vervet monkeys are also commonly seen, alongside an impressive diversity of birdlife. There are no elephants or lions in this part of the reserve, which allows for a more immersive and relaxed way to explore on foot with guided walking experiences.
We love Few & Far Luvhondo for its highly personalised approach to every guest’s needs. The brilliant guides are available throughout the day to take you wherever and whenever you would like to go. Each evening brings a different dining experience, with fresh, beautifully prepared meals. If you visit during the pioneer butterfly migration, you are in for a real treat, as clouds of white wings drift through the air.
