Why visit Singapore

Singapore’s city centre is the perfect introduction to this dynamic island nation. Compact, clean, and easy to explore, it blends striking modern architecture with rich heritage, world-class dining, and green spaces woven through the skyline. Staying in the heart of the city places the very best experiences right on your doorstep.

Marina Bay is home to some of Singapore’s most iconic landmarks, from the futuristic Gardens by the Bay to sweeping skyline views from rooftop bars and waterfront promenades. Just moments away, historic neighbourhoods such as Chinatown and Kampong Glam reveal colourful shophouses, temples, and mosques that reflect the city’s multicultural roots. This contrast between old and new is what gives Singapore its unique energy.

The city centre is also a hub for fine dining, boutique shopping, and exceptional hotels. You can enjoy Michelin-starred cuisine one evening and sample local dishes at a hawker centre the next. Spend your days browsing designer stores along Orchard Road, exploring cultural enclaves, or relaxing by a rooftop pool overlooking the skyline.

Did you know?

Gardens by the Bay’s Supertrees aren’t just decorative. These futuristic vertical gardens generate solar power and collect rainwater.

Did you know?

Singapore’s skyline is carefully planned. Building heights in the city centre are regulated to protect flight paths and maintain the city’s balanced look.

Getting to Singapore City Centre

The main airport in Singapore is Singapore Changi Airport (SIN).

It is located in the Changi area on the eastern side of Singapore, around a 20–30 minute drive from the city centre, depending on traffic.

Direct flights operate regularly between Singapore and both the United Kingdom and the United States.

Where to combine with Singapore City Centre

From the city, it’s easy to get to the Indonesian Riau Islands, with stays on Cempedak and Nikoi, both reached by a short ferry ride. Bawah Reserve is a bit further out and accessed by seaplane, but well worth it. Together, they offer a much slower pace, simple beach stays, and plenty of time by the sea, a nice contrast to Singapore’s city life.

For a different journey, Singapore also connects well with Malaysia. The Eastern & Oriental Express offers a slow and scenic rail route north, linking Singapore with destinations such as Kuala Lumpur and Penang. It is a classic way to experience the region at a more relaxed pace, moving from city to countryside.

OUR FAVOURITE TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit Singapore City Centre is generally February to April.

This period tends to be slightly drier and a little less humid than the rest of the year, making it more comfortable for walking around areas like Marina Bay and the riverside.

That said, Singapore sits close to the equator, so it is warm and humid all year round. There is no true “bad” season, but rainfall can be heavier during the monsoon periods from November to January and again around June to September.
