Rugero Jeannette

Jeannette is one of East Africa’s most respected female safari professionals, recognised for her regional expertise and commitment to conservation and community-led tourism. Born in Tanzania to Rwandan parents who had fled the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, her upbringing was shaped by resilience and determination. Her parents worked as farmers and sacrificed greatly to support her education, often selling livestock to cover school fees.

While studying Travel and Tourism Management, she discovered her passion for guiding and began building a career in the industry. What began as an early internship grew into a vocation: designing and leading journeys across East Africa that highlight the region’s wildlife, landscapes and cultures.

Today, she is widely recognised for her work and has received several honours, including Best Female Guide in 2022 and Best Guide in Rwanda in 2024. Alongside guiding, she is a strong advocate for women working in tourism, mentoring young professionals and encouraging greater representation across the sector.

Jeanette particularly enjoys leading journeys to lesser-visited destinations, including the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, and specialises in cross-border expeditions that combine wildlife, culture and adventure.

Based in Rwanda, she guides in Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She speaks English.
