How to get there

One&Only Gorilla’s Nest is approximiately a two and a half hour drive from Kigali International Airport.

Alternatively, arrival in a private helicopter can be arranged. The journey is only 25 minutes form Kigali International Airport.

Are children welcome?

One&Only Gorilla’s Nest welcomes guests aged 15 and over. Children under the age 15 are not permitted to go gorilla trekking to ensure safety and respect for both guests and gorillas.

Giving back

One&Only Gorilla’s Nest supports mountain gorilla conservation through its partnership with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund’s Ellen DeGeneres Campus, protecting gorillas and their forest habitat. Guests can learn about the Fund’s work and the research that keeps these animals safe.

The resort partners with the female-led Twongere Kawa Coko Cooperative to source coffee. Guests can visit the plantation, tour the farm and see coffee production from crop to cup. Coop members also manage the resort’s coffee garden, sharing their expertise.

The resort backs Esther’s Aid, a non-profit that trains young people and women in culinary arts, hospitality, computing, entrepreneurship and social development. Graduates gain real-world skills and employment, promoting self-reliance.

What wildlife can you expect to see?

Mountain Gorillas: The Region is famous for gorilla trekking to see mountain gorillas. The mountain gorilla is a subspecies of the eastern gorilla. Mountain gorillas are endangered – there are an estimated 1,063 in the wild according to the latest census results.

Golden Monkeys: The forested slopes also support golden monkeys, small colourful primates that live in bamboo and forest habitats and are a highlight for wildlife lovers.

Birdlife: There are more than 300 species here, , including sunbirds, bee-eaters, flycatchers, weavers, kites, eagles and vultures.
