Highlights

  • Lakeside Setting In Akagera: Set within Akagera National Park, Magashi Camp overlooks Lake Rwanyakazinga. Elephant feed along the shore and hippo surface at dusk. The views feel vast and wonderfully wild.
  • Wildlife: Game drives reveal lion, rhino, buffalo and giraffe across open savannah. Leopard move quietly through the bush. Each drive feels purposeful and unrushed.
  • Tented Suites: Just eight spacious tents face the lake. Expect canvas, warm wood and wide decks for quiet moments between drives.
  • Safari by Boat: Boat trips add a fresh angle to your stay. Glide past hippo pods and basking crocodile as fish eagle call overhead. Wildlife feels close and unfiltered.
  • Conservation In Action: Magashi supports the park’s revival alongside African Parks and the Rwanda Development Board. Guests can assist with lion and rhino monitoring. It is a safari with real impact.
  • Cuisine: Magashi’s meals showcase fresh, local ingredients with a focus on sustainability. Enjoy wholesome, flavourful dishes served on the deck, with the lake and wildlife as your backdrop.

Good to know

How to get there

Situated in Akagera National Park, the closest international airport is Kigali International airport, from which the journey usually takes just over four hours by car.

Are children welcome?

Magashi Camp welcomes children ages six and above.

Giving back

Magashi Camp works closely with African Parks and the Rwanda Development Board. Their efforts have reintroduced rhino and increased lion numbers in Akagera National Park. Guests contribute directly by staying in the camp, helping fund these vital conservation projects.

The camp supports local villages through education, training and employment. Guides, rangers and staff are mostly recruited from nearby communities, giving families long-term skills in hospitality and wildlife management.

Operations at Magashi minimise environmental impact. Solar power, careful water use and local materials reduce the footprint, while tents and common areas are designed to blend into the landscape and leave nature largely untouched.

What wildlife can you expect to see?

Topi, impala, buffalo, spotted hyena, leopard, crocodile, giraffe, plains zebra, mixed plains game and over 520 bird species.

Why we love Magashi Camp

The camp sits on a private concession overlooking Lake Rwanyakazinga, and with only eight tented suites there is a  sense of seclusion and connection to the landscape that is hard to match.
