Good to know

How do we get there?

In southwest Nicaragua, Rancho Santana sits on the Pacific Coast about two hours from the country’s capital.

From Managua International Airport, the drive to Rancho Santana usually takes between two and two and a half hours.

From  Liberia International Airport in Costa Rica, the drive typically takes about four hours, including the border crossing.

Are children welcome?

Rancho Santana welcomes children of all ages.

The resort has a Kids Club, a bright studio for children aged five to twelve. They can take part in nature walks, scavenger hunts, farm activities, arts and crafts, and story sessions. Seasonal programmes add sandcastle competitions, beach games, and festive workshops, keeping every day fresh and engaging.

For younger children, babysitting services are available on request. Professional, bilingual staff can tailor care to each child’s routine, from garden playtime to bedtime stories.

Giving back

Rancho Santana places sustainability at the heart of its operations. The resort works to protect the Emerald Coast’s beaches, forests and wildlife. Efforts include solar energy, water efficiency, waste management, green construction and organic farming, all while maintaining guest comfort.

A solar park powers many buildings with renewable energy, reducing fossil fuel use. Water is carefully managed through wells and treatment systems, while waste is sorted and composted to nourish the gardens. These steps keep the resort’s footprint low and preserve natural resources.

Food and land stewardship are key. The resort grows organic fruits, vegetables and herbs for its restaurants. Large areas are protected as green space, and a marine turtle sanctuary at Playa Escondida supports nesting and hatching of multiple species each year.

What's Included?

A stay at Rancho Santana includes a range of experiences that showcase the estate’s natural setting. Trails wind through the property for quiet walks among gardens and coastal landscapes. Guests can try sand-boarding on the dunes, join guided nature walks, and spot local birds and monkeys. These activities are included as part of the stay and offer an easy way to explore the ranch.

For those looking to do more,  there is a selection of enhanced experiences available for an additional cost. Surf lessons along the Emerald Coast, horse riding across the ranch, and treetop yoga sessions offer active ways to connect with the surroundings. Wellness treatments in the forest spa provide time to slow down, while off-site excursions to volcanoes, lakes and wildlife areas can be arranged.

Why we love Rancho Santana

Rancho Santana has a local feel, but is still high-end. There is so much space, and the staff are super friendly. A real highlight is the food, I think I had the best dessert I’ve ever had.
