Highlights

  • Private Island Location: Jicaro Island Lodge is a secluded getaway, located on the small private island Jicaro, surrounded by the tranquil waters of Lake Nicaragua, overlooking Mombacho Volcano.
  • Eco-friendly Initiatives: The Lodge was constructed entirely out of fallen timber from trees that had been blown down in Hurricane Felix, giving the tropical hardwood a second life. On the island, solar power and water filtration systems help reduce the impact on surrounding wildlife.
  • Waterfront Casitas:  Every Casita is a private two-storey dwelling, with an airy upstairs bedroom and a spacious downstairs living area. They all have lakeside views and a private terrace where guests can relax in their hammock.
  • Lakeside Dining: Jicaro works exclusively with local, artisanal produce, making extraordinary dishes out of the fresh ingredients. Local farmers provide Jicaro with organic sustainably sourced meat, and the fish is freshly caught from the lake.
  • Relaxation and Wellness: The pool at the Lodge is designed to fit into the harmony of the island. Guests can enjoy a swim up bar or relax on the sunbeds. Yoga classes take place looking out over Mombacho Volcano and a variety of spa treatments are available.
  • Activities:  Guests are able to use the kayaks and paddle boards to explore the neighbouring islands whenever they desire. A local guide will also take guests on fishing trips, volcano visits and tours of Granada and local attractions.

Giving back

As a proud member of the Cayuga Collection, Jicaro Island Lodge takes sustainable practices very seriously.

Jicaro Island Lodge is entirely built from fallen timber, from trees that had blown down by Hurricane Felix. The buildings and furniture is made form tropical hardwoods which have a FSC/Rainforest Alliance Wood Certification. The design of the Lodge is also designed to blend in with the character and vegetation of the island, in order to not disturb the area.

At Jicaro Island, sustainable travel is a core value, and the facilities were designed to minimise environmental impact as much as possible. Some of their initiatives include providing filtered drinking water, to reduce the use of plastic bottles, solar power is used to heat the water. Cross ventilation and ceiling fans are used instead of air conditioning. Only biodegradable soaps, cleaning detergents and spa products are used on the island. Wastewater is treated in the island, and chlorine free systems are in place to clean the pool.

Jicaro helps the local community by providing education to locals on sustainable practices, as well as hiring local staff, buying local goods and supporting local farmers.

Padre Nello School is a short boat ride away from the lodge, and Jicaro has developed a community outreach programme to help provide the school with filtered drinking water by setting up a sustainable energy system with the use of solar power. the project will also provide power for the community health centre, allowing medical professionals to have the ability to operate vital equipment.

Jicaro has also constructed a small vegetable garden on neighbouring land, which shares the produce with the families who care for the plants.

What's Included?
