Giving back

Calala Island sits in Nicaragua’s remote Caribbean region, where 75% of the population lives below the poverty line. Founded with a clear purpose, Calala Island supports local communities while protecting the natural environment through the privately funded Calala Foundation, with at least 10% of room inventory sold through charitable organisations.

Community investment is central to the island’s approach. Over 80% of staff are hired locally, creating meaningful jobs in small nearby communities. Calala Island also works with the Wildlife Conservation Society to protect critically endangered hawksbill turtles, with record nesting seasons achieved on the island.

Environmental responsibility guides daily operations. More than 85% of energy comes from renewable sources, supported by eco-friendly wastewater systems and a strong recycling programme that helps protect the NiCaribbean for future generations.

What's Included?

Dining is a highlight of the island, fully inclusive and tailored to each guest. From casual poolside meals to formal tasting menus, Executive Chef Lorne Emerson prepares every dish using fresh, seasonal ingredients from the island’s organic gardens and surrounding seas. Snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, and most alcoholic drinks are included, with select premium wines and champagne available separately.

The island’s experiences are equally effortless. Guests can snorkel, kayak, paddleboard, or fish in the Caribbean waters, enjoy the infinity pool and pristine beach, and unwind with luxury spa treatments available on-site. Calala Island delivers a fully immersive, personalized escape where every detail is designed to delight.
