Good to know

How do we get there?

Blanket Bay is located at the northern end of Lake Whakatipu which is about a 45 minute drive from Queenstown.

A short helicopter ride from Queenstown International Airport can also be arranged.

Are children welcome?

Blanket Bay welcomes children over the age of 10 years old. The activities and experiences at the lodge are much better suited for teenagers and adults.

Giving back

The lodge incorporates natural materials such as local timber and stone in its construction, reflecting a respect for the surrounding landscape. It sources seasonal produce and ingredients from nearby Central Otago farmers and artisans, helping to sustain local food networks.

What's nearby?

Just a few kilometres from Blanket Bay, guests can take a heli-tour over Milford Sound. They fly past cliffs and waterfalls to the Tasman Sea.

Mt Aspiring National Park is on the lodge’s doorstep. Guests can ride a jet boat down braided, glacier-fed rivers or paddle the Dart River in inflatable kayaks.

Many hiking trails start at the lodge, including the famous Routeburn Track.

Guests can also ride horses across the high-country station, go fly-fishing or heli-fishing, or try heli-skiing in winter.

Nearby wineries, including the award-winning Amisfield Winery & Bistro and Gibbston Valley Winery, offer guests the chance to taste local wines. The Southern Lakes region has gained international acclaim for its exceptional ‘New World’ varieties, especially Pinot Noir, which is ranked among the world’s best.

Why we love Blanket Bay

We love taking the boat out from Blanket Bay’s private dock to the ancient beech forests, one of the stunning filming locations for The Lord of the Rings!
