Highlights

  • Extraordinary setting – set in the heart of Damaraland among vast granite outcrops and open desert plains, an area known for ancient geology, rock art and big-sky silence.

  • Design that disappears into the landscape – sculptural suites built directly into boulders, open to the elements and visually unobtrusive, creating an immersive sense of sleeping within the wilderness.

  • Desert-adapted wildlife encounters – game drives and walks focus on tracking elephants, giraffe and predators uniquely adapted to arid conditions, offering a very different safari rhythm.

  • Exceptional, low-impact guiding – highly skilled guides prioritise tracking, ecology and understanding the land rather than simply ticking off sightings.

  • Intimate and quietly exclusive – with only a handful of suites, the atmosphere is unhurried and personal, allowing flexible schedules and genuine privacy.

  • Sleep-out under the stars – optional nights spent on private decks beneath open skies, delivering one of Namibia’s most memorable and elemental experiences.

Good to know

How do we get there?

From Windhoek, the easiest way is to fly to Damaraland and then transfer to the lodge. The flight is around 90 minutes, followed by a 45-minute drive.

It is possible to drive all the way, and it is certainly stunning, but does take around seven hours.

Are children welcome?

Children aged seven years and over are generally welcome at Onduli Ridge, with younger children considered on request. The experience centres on walking safaris and tracking, making it best suited to older, wildlife-curious children who can engage quietly and follow safety guidance. Open-front suites, rocky terrain and the remote setting mean it works particularly well for adventurous families or those taking the lodge on an exclusive-use basis, where greater flexibility can be built into activities and daily routines.

Giving back

Onduli Ridge operates with a strong low-impact, conservation-led approach designed to protect Damaraland’s fragile desert ecosystem. The lodge is built with minimal permanent structures, using solar power as its primary energy source and limiting water consumption through careful management and reuse systems. Guiding focuses on low-volume, ethical wildlife encounters, with walking safaris prioritising tracking skills and environmental understanding over vehicle use. Onduli Ridge also supports local communities through employment, training and regional partnerships, while contributing to wider conservation efforts aimed at protecting desert-adapted wildlife and preserving the area’s long-term ecological integrity.

What wildlife might you encounter?

At Onduli Ridge, wildlife encounters are shaped by Damaraland’s arid environment and focus on species adapted to survive in extreme conditions. You may encounter desert-adapted elephants, often tracked on foot, as well as giraffe, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, oryx and springbok. Predators include lion, leopard, spotted hyena and occasional cheetah, though sightings are more about skilled tracking than density. Smaller highlights include bat-eared foxes, kudu, black-backed jackal and a rich variety of birdlife, particularly raptors.

Why we love Onduli Ridge

This is one of the most special places I’ve ever stayed in Namibia, and may well have the best service of any hotel I’ve ever stayed in anywhere.
