Good to know

How to get there?

The closest international airport is Velana International Airport, formerly known as Malé International Airport. From here, guests can travel to Anantara Kihavah by seaplane, enjoying an exhilarating flight over the spectacular archipelago. It is important to note that  the seaplanes only operate between 6am and 4pm and are dependent on weather conditions.

Alternatively, guests may take a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo Airport, where they will be met with a speedboat. The journey across the water takes around 30 minutes, offering a first glimpse of the island’s turquoise lagoon.

Are children welcome?

Children of all ages are welcome at Anantara Kihavah, and families will find plenty to enjoy. If children are staying, the villa comes equipped with child-sized bathrobes, slippers, life jackets and toys, and can provide with baby-amenity pouches stocked with shampoo, soap, powder, bath gel and essential changing items.

For children aged four to twelve, the Thiththi Boli Kids’ Club offers supervised fun through outdoor exploration and creative activities. Young guests can enjoy pirate cruises, tennis, badminton, a climbing wall and mini master-chef classes. Marine adventures include dolphin discovery, snorkelling and kayaking. Children over ten can take PADI certification courses, while eight- and nine-year-olds can join the Bubblemaker programme in the calm lagoon.

Older children and teens can relax in the recreation area or join family games such as life-sized chess, badminton, volleyball and Jenga. Toddlers have a safe, supervised space where they can be let loose.

The resort’s resident marine biologist, Christine, introduces young ocean lovers to the marine life that surrounds the island.

Babysitting is available for babies over three months, with sitters trained in First Aid and CPR and available both day and night. Restaurants offer a dedicated children’s menu to make family dining simple and enjoyable.

Giving back

Set in the Baa Atoll Archipelago, Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas does not take this UNESCO biosphere reserve for granted, and do everything that they can preserve the natural beauty.

During the construction of the resort, not a single tree was cut down, which is why the villas have been uniquely designed around them.

Anantara Kihavah has spent two years conducting an extensive reef study, and has documented 300 species of fish, and over 130 distinct coral varieties within the house reef. This project aims to inspire budding conversationalists and serve as an inspiration for ongoing marine conservation efforts, emphasising the need to protect the reefs.

Guests are invited to participate in the Coral Adoption Programme, a long term project that gives them the opportunity to plant coral in the resort’s reef nursery and transplant it into a rope in the lagoon. Regular updates on the adopted coral will be sent after the guests have gone home.

We all know that plastic waste is one of the biggest pollutants of the beaches and oceans, as well as being a huge threat to marine life. Anantara has applied a zero-plastic initiative, and all single use plastics have been removed from the island and replaced with biodegradable items. To eliminate plastic water bottles, still and sparkling water is distilled on site which is distributed to guests in glass bottles.

The Nala Orchid Garden is home to about 1200 orchids of 25 different varieties, and the Organic Garden is an on-site vegetable and herb garden. This produce is used as ingredients in drinks and food served at the resort’s restaurants and bars.

The resort has also installed a solar energy system, which reduces the requirement for general power by 26%.

What's included?

Guests at Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas enjoy luxurious villa accommodation with private pools, direct beach or lagoon access and personalised service from a 24-hour villa host dedicated to attending to individual needs. All villas come with thoughtful touches and amenities, and guests have complimentary use of snorkelling equipment, life jackets, kayaks and bicycles to explore the island and lagoon at their leisure.

The resort’s house reef sits just off the shore and offers exceptional snorkelling, allowing guests to discover colourful fish and coral directly from the villa. On land, there are courts for tennis, padel and badminton, with rackets and balls provided. A recreation area offers family fun with billiards, life-sized chess, volleyball and Jenga, while a fitness centre caters to wellness routines.

For experiences at an additional cost, the Elements Dive & Water Sports Centre provides scuba diving, PADI certification courses and guided snorkelling with manta rays and turtles. Motorised water sports, including jet skiing, are also available for a supplement. Guests can join manta-ray excursions, big-game fishing and dolphin or sunset cruises. A standout optional experience is SKY, the over-water observatory with the most powerful telescope in the Maldives, where guests can stargaze and learn about the night sky, observing the Milky Way, Omega Centauri and the Messier 13 globular cluster.

Why we love Anantara Kihavah

The resort is absolutely gorgeous, but we particularly love the house reef. It is home to so many species of fish and different varieties of coral. A real highlight is having the opportunity to plant your own piece of coral in the reef nursery, and see it transported to the lagoon. It makes you feel very connected to the beauty of the reef, and the sustainability efforts that go into preserving it.
