Good to know

How do we get there?

You reach The Datai Langkawi by flying into Langkawi International Airport (LGK), which has direct flights from Kuala Lumpur and seasonal routes from Singapore and other regional hubs.

From the airport, it’s around a 40–50 minute private car transfer through the island’s rainforest to reach the resort.

Are children welcome?

The Datai Langkawi welcomes children and families in a calm, nature-led way. There is no formal kids’ club, but the resort offers a range of guided activities through The Nature Centre. These include gardening in the permaculture garden, butterfly spotting, cookery classes and simple nature experiences designed for children and parents to enjoy together.

Families are well supported in terms of accommodation and practical needs. Extra bedding can be arranged for older children or additional guests. Babysitting is available on request with advance notice. Safety is an important focus, especially around balconies and natural surroundings, so children should always be supervised.

Dining and facilities are also family-friendly, with children’s menus available in most restaurants and designated dining times in selected venues. The resort has a family pool and a separate toddler area, while some facilities, such as the Health Club and water sports, can be used by children only with adult supervision.

Giving back

At The Datai Langkawi, giving back is central to how the resort operates. This is led through The Datai Pledge, a long-term programme designed to protect Langkawi’s natural environment while supporting the local community. It is built around four pillars: Pure for the Future, Wildlife for the Future, Fish for the Future and Youth for the Future, each focusing on sustainability across the resort’s operations, ecosystems and education.

On an environmental level, the resort runs wide-ranging conservation and regeneration projects. These include coral nurseries, rainforest and mangrove restoration, wildlife protection and scientific research. Daily operations are also designed to reduce impact, with initiatives such as on-site water bottling in reusable glass, composting systems, waste reduction, upcycling and innovative solutions to manage non-recyclable materials. These efforts are supported by dedicated facilities including recycling centres, organic gardens and filtration systems.

The Datai also plays an active role in supporting the local community. It works with local NGOs, schools and artisans to deliver education programmes, fund conservation research and create sustainable livelihoods. Local fishermen are supported through responsible sourcing initiatives, while young people are engaged through environmental learning. Guests are invited to take part too, with experiences such as conservation activities, workshops and adoption programmes, where contributions directly support ongoing projects across the island.

What's nearby?

The Datai Langkawi sits on a quiet stretch of Langkawi’s north-west coast, surrounded by ancient rainforest and overlooking Datai Bay. The setting is deliberately remote, with very little in the way of towns, shops or restaurants nearby. Instead, the focus is on nature and seclusion, making the resort feel completely removed from the rest of the island.

Because of this, much of what you do during your stay happens within the resort itself. Guests are encouraged to explore the rainforest through guided nature experiences led by resident naturalists, with opportunities to spot wildlife such as hornbills and dusky langurs. There are also sustainability-led activities linked to The Datai Pledge, allowing guests to take part in conservation work and learn more about the island’s ecosystems.

Beyond this, the resort offers a range of curated experiences designed to make the most of its setting. You can join Malaysian cooking classes with resident chefs, play golf at the nearby Els Club Teluk Datai, or take to the water on a catamaran to explore Langkawi’s surrounding islands. Each experience is designed to connect you more closely with the landscape, meaning that even though the location is remote, there is still plenty to do without leaving the area.

Why we love The Datai

The Datai is an incredibly special and unique place, a true tropical paradise. Ecology and wildlife are a huge draw here, and there is so much to do that will connect you to nature. From walking through the rainforest and spotting dusky leaf monkeys around the resort, to the butterfly walk, which is a real highlight.
