Why visit Vientiane

Vientiane, Laos’ capital, is a calm and engaging city where traditional culture meets gentle urban life and fresh creative energy. Here you can wander the Mekong riverside at sunset, explore colourful markets and historic temples, and enjoy leafy cafés and French‑influenced boulevards. A compelling reason to visit now is the Lao Art Museum, which opened in 2025 in Vientiane’s Xaythany district. The museum is one of the largest cultural spaces in the country, showcasing wood carvings, paintings and other works that highlight Lao craftsmanship and artistic heritage across eras and styles.

Beyond the museum, Vientiane offers rich cultural highlights, from the golden spire of Pha That Luang – Laos’ most revered monument – to lively street food and local markets where Lao life unfolds at an unhurried pace.
