Why visit Luang Prabang?

Luang Prabang is a place of quiet enchantment, where saffron-robed monks move through lantern-lit streets, gilded temples sit beside faded colonial villas and daily life flows to the rhythm of the Mekong. Beyond the town, jungle waterfalls spill into turquoise pools, rural villages preserve centuries-old crafts and the Mekong opens the door to gentle adventures by boat or bicycle. Did you Know?

Luang Prabang was the royal capital of the Kingdom of Laos for over 200 years, and its monarchy helped shape the city’s distinctive blend of temples, palaces and French-colonial architecture. Many of the gilded temples, royal mansions, and stupa-topped hills you see today reflect this long history, making the town a living museum of Lao heritage.

Pétanque

Laos has a surprising devotion to pétanque, the French-inspired game similar to boules. In Luang Prabang, it’s played by young and old alike, and you can join in with a guide, local snacks and a bottle of Beer Lao for an authentic, playful evening.
