Jackson Looseiya

Jackson Looseiya is one of the Maasai Mara’s most respected and recognisable safari guides. Born and raised in the heart of the Mara, he grew up surrounded by wildlife and learned the rhythms of the bush from an early age. His father was a hunter and much of Jackson’s early knowledge of tracking and survival came from time spent moving through the landscape alongside him.

In 1980, his life took a different direction when safari expert Ron Beaton recognised his remarkable natural ability and offered to train him as a professional guide. At the time there were no Maasai guides working in the Maasai Mara, making Jackson one of the first and helping pave the way for a new generation of local guides.

Decades of experience have made him particularly well known for his knowledge of the Mara’s big cats. His ability to track and interpret their behaviour brought him international recognition when he joined the BBC’s Big Cat Live, where his expertise helped bring the lives of lions, leopards and cheetahs to viewers around the world.

Today Jackson continues to guide privately in the Maasai Mara and has also established his own safari camp in the reserve, a place he enjoys sharing with guests exploring this remarkable ecosystem.
