Kenyan Elephant

David Githu Gathimba, known as GG, is a Kenyan safari guide and naturalist whose career has been shaped by a lifelong connection to the outdoors. Born in Kenya’s central highlands and later spending time in the Rift Valley lakes region, his early years were spent herding livestock, exploring woodlands and observing wildlife along rivers and hillsides. These experiences, alongside time spent learning from skilled trackers and elders, including his grandfather, fostered a deep respect for nature and a keen eye for the subtle signs of the bush.

GG later formalised his passion through professional training at Utalii College, one of East Africa’s leading tourism institutions. He also holds multiple certifications from the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association, including the highly regarded Gold Level qualification. Over the years he has guided travellers from around the world, including several seasons at a respected tented camp in the Maasai Mara before moving into private guiding.

Alongside his work in the field, GG has also brought Africa’s wildlife to global audiences. Since 2018 he has appeared as a presenter and naturalist on live safari broadcasts with SafariLive and WildEarth, and he continues to contribute to wildlife filmmaking and conservation initiatives.
