Good to know

How to get there

From Nairobi there are either scheduled flights to Nanyuki Airstrip, or you can book a private charter to take you to Loisaba Airstrip at the lodge itself.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome at Ol Lentille, making it an excellent destination for families. The lodge offers a private and flexible environment that caters to all ages, with activities tailored to suit children and families. From nature walks and cultural experiences to poolside relaxation, younger guests can enjoy a safe and engaging introduction to Kenya’s wilderness. Babysitting services can also be arranged, ensuring parents have time to unwind while children are well cared for.

Giving back

Ol Lentille is a pioneering example of community-based conservation, aligning tourism and conservation efforts with the interests of local Maasai and Samburu communities. The lodge was donated to and is owned by the local community, ensuring that tourism benefits directly support the landowners. The 40,000-acre conservancy has been rewilded, leading to significant returns of flora and fauna. The conservancy is unfenced and patrolled by a team of rangers from the local communities, including female rangers, trained to protect the area sensitively and collaboratively. Over the past 15 years, more than $5 million has been invested in community development, resulting in the construction of 12 schools and a level 4 hospital. This model creates a “win-win” for communities and conservation, funded by tourism.

What wildlife can you expect to see?

Ol Lentille offers a unique wildlife experience within its 40,000-acre private conservancy in the Laikipia region of Kenya. While it is not a traditional Big Five destination, it boasts a fascinating array of wildlife and biodiversity. Here’s what you can expect to see:

  • Plains Game: Species such as giraffe, zebra, impala, Grant’s gazelle, and dik-dik are commonly spotted.
  • Rare and Endemic Species: Look out for Grevy’s zebra and the reticulated giraffe, both endangered and unique to northern Kenya.
  • Predators: Though elusive, hyenas, jackals, and sometimes leopards can be seen within the conservancy.
  • Birdlife: The area is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 300 bird species, including the Somali ostrich, hornbills, and colourful sunbirds.
  • Nocturnal Wildlife: Night drives offer a chance to spot nocturnal creatures like aardvarks, genets, and porcupines.
  • Other Species: Monkeys, rock hyraxes, and warthogs add to the diversity of sightings.
