Highlights

  • Spectacular Setting – Remote location in Laikipia with views of Mount Kenya, open skies and untouched wilderness, far from busier safari routes.

  • Immersive Wildlife – Explore on foot or by vehicle with expert guides, tracking game in a region known for its biodiversity and low visitor numbers.

  • Flexibility – The only camp within approximately 50,000 hectares means you won’t see another person. There is also a huge amount of flexibility on offer. Fancy sleeping out under the stars? They can set up a camp for you. Walking safari? No problem. This team most definitely has a “can-do” attitude.
  • Sustainable Ethos – Built with minimal impact, the camp runs off-grid and blends seamlessly into its environment, prioritising conservation and local stewardship.

  • Cultural Exchange – Thoughtful opportunities to meet and learn from nearby Samburu communities, fostering genuine connection and mutual understanding.

  • Stargazing & Stillness – With no light pollution, nights are extraordinary for stargazing – and the silence is a rare luxury in today’s world.

  • Personal Hosting – Owner-hosted with care and warmth, creating a deeply personal, characterful experience rooted in love for the land.

How to get there

Reach Moon’s Camp from Nairobi via a scenic light aircraft flight from Wilson Airport to Nanyuki (approx. 45 minutes) or Loisaba (around 1 hour), operated by Safarilink or Air Kenya. From there, continue by 4WD vehicle through Laikipia’s spectacular landscapes, a journey of 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on your airstrip and road conditions.

Are children welcome?

Yes, children are welcome at Moon’s Camp, but it’s best suited to families with older children who are comfortable in a remote, off-grid environment and able to fully engage with the wilderness experience.

There are no specific child-focused facilities (like swimming pools or play areas), and due to the camp’s open, unfenced setting, supervision is essential at all times. That said, for families seeking meaningful adventure, cultural exchange, and wildlife encounters away from crowds, it can be an incredibly rewarding experience.

Giving back

Environmental Stewardship

Moon’s Camp is designed with a light environmental footprint, using local materials and low-impact structures that blend naturally into the landscape. The camp runs on solar power, prioritises rainwater harvesting, and implements careful waste reduction practices. Even game drives are designed with sustainability in mind, guests explore Laikipia’s wild terrain in restored, classic Land Rovers, chosen for their durability and reduced manufacturing footprint.

Community-Led Philosophy

Moon’s Camp operates as a community social enterprise, ensuring tourism directly benefits the surrounding Samburu and Laikipia communities. Local people are employed as guides, hosts and storytellers, with an emphasis on cultural exchange, skills development and long-term support rather than short-term gain.

Place-Based Design

From architecture to furnishings, everything at Moon’s Camp reflects the region’s heritage and natural materials. Interiors are handmade, not flown in, and meals are prepared using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible – supporting nearby producers and reducing carbon miles. The result is a stay that’s rooted in place, shaped by the land and those who call it home.
