ROKU KYOTO is approximately a two hour drive from Kansai International Airport and a one hour drive from Osaka International Airport. From JR Kyoto Station, the hotel is approximately a 30 minute drive

Are children welcome?

ROKU KYOTO welcomes children of all ages, and the hotel offers cots, childcare and a range of activities for younger guests. These include a treasure hunt around the resort and child friendly versions of its craft workshops. Several rooms can also accommodate up to three guests.

Giving back

ROKU KYOTO is committed to a more sustainable future while protecting the natural surroundings, culture and traditions of Takagamine. The hotel sits alongside the Kamiya River, in an area linked to the Rinpa school of art. More than 400 years ago, artist Hon’ami Koetsu established an artists’ village here, which became an important centre for traditional arts and crafts. The hotel supports the local environment through regular river clean ups and litter collections, its own farm and by turning food waste into fertiliser. Through the Association to Beautify the Kamiya River, it also helps protect the river and its wildlife.

ROKU KYOTO works with Kyoto based artists to introduce guests to traditional crafts. Local artists’ work features on guest room tea sets, while the concierge leads art tours. Broken ceramics are restored using kintsugi and displayed as art. Traditional Kyoto crafts, including karakami paper and Nishijin-ori textiles, feature throughout the hotel, while its Artist-in-Residence concept supports contemporary artists working with traditional crafts.

The hotel supports local events and community initiatives, including the Kagami-ishi Festa. It also provides toshikoshi soba, Christmas cookies and Halloween treats to local children’s homes, schools and community groups. To reduce plastic use, ROKU KYOTO uses rice based straws at Restaurant TENJIN and more environmentally friendly guest room amenities. Plastic water bottles have been replaced with glass bottles and paper cartons, alongside recycling measures.

ROKU KYOTO promotes diversity, supports childcare and provides career opportunities for foreign employees. Students from hospitality and culinary schools can gain practical experience at the hotel. What is nearby?

ROKU KYOTO is well placed for exploring northern Kyoto. Kinkaku ji, known as the Golden Pavilion, is approximately 1.2 km away. Ryoan ji is home to one of Japan’s most famous Zen rock gardens, while Ninna ji is known for its traditional temple buildings, gardens and five storey pagoda.

Arashiyama is also within easy reach, with its famous Bamboo Grove, Togetsukyo Bridge and Tenryu ji Temple. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is another nearby highlight, known for its plum trees and its connection to learning.

Back at ROKU KYOTO, you can take part in activities inspired by Kyoto’s traditional crafts. These include Washi paper making and pottery using clay from the hotel grounds.
