A Journey Through Indonesia

The Ultimate Three Weeks in Indonesia

Discover Indonesia on the ultimate three-week journey through sacred temples, wild seas, and island sanctuaries.

Begin in Bali on the tranquil east coast at Amankila, where Mount Agung rises behind palm-fringed beaches and days unfold with spa rituals, private boat excursions, and a traditional Melukat water blessing led by a local priest.

Candlelit dinners overlooking rice fields, snorkelling from a Balinese fishing boat, and jungle-wrapped serenity set the tone before travelling inland to Ubud. Here, cycling through emerald UNESCO-listed rice terraces, riverside yoga, artisan villages, and standout dining reveal Bali’s cultural and spiritual heart.

Fly on to Central Java for an unforgettable stay at Amanjiwo, gazing directly over Borobudur. Explore this ancient Buddhist monument at dawn, trek the mystical Menoreh Hills, and cycle through rural villages before sharing an intimate, home-cooked Javanese dinner accompanied by gamelan music. The journey then shifts dramatically to the seas of Komodo National Park, where three nights aboard a private yacht bring snorkelling with manta rays, encounters with Komodo dragons, coral-rich dives, sunset beach dinners, and starlit barbecues in some of Indonesia’s most remote waters.

The adventure ends on the untamed island of Sumba at Nihi Sumba, a place of sweeping beaches, rolling savannahs, and deep cultural connection. Ride horses through the surf at sunset, hike to hidden waterfalls, surf legendary breaks, and unwind on a secluded spa safari overlooking the Indian Ocean. Days are unhurried and immersive, blending nature, wellness, and meaningful encounters with local communities—an extraordinary finale to a meticulously curated Indonesian escape.

DID YOU KNOW?

Indonesia is the world’s largest archipelago, made up of over 17,000 islands, many formed by volcanic activity. Sitting on the Pacific Ring of Fire, it has around 130 active volcanoes, the most of any country, and in some regions, the Indian and Pacific Oceans meet, creating spectacular coastal scenery.

Itinerary Highlights

Traditional Melukat Water Blessing Ceremony

Amankila, Bali, Indonesia

You will experience a traditional Melukat water blessing led by Pak Mangku, the local priest. He offers blessings and ties yarn bracelets around your wrists to symbolise love, health and happiness.

Afterwards, a scenic drive takes you through the countryside to Tirta Sari, a bale overlooking emerald rice fields. As evening falls, a candlelit path leads across the plantations to Aman’s bale, where a private chef and waiter await an intimate dinner.

Bongkasa Cycling

Four Seasons, Ubud, Bali

Cycle through Bali’s peaceful interior, where emerald paddy fields, village temples and traditional houses line the route. The ride unfolds at an easy pace, with time to pause, meet locals and glimpse daily life beyond Ubud.

The journey ends at Puri Taman Sari, a Balinese compound owned by the Mengwi royal family, where a home-cooked lunch is served. Later, wander through Taman Ayun, the 17th-century royal temple of Mengwi and part of Bali’s UNESCO-recognised Subak irrigation system, set within a wide moat and layered courtyards crowned with tiered meru shrines.

Borobudur at dawn

Borobudur Temple, Java, Indonesia

Rise early to experience Borobudur at dawn. Built in the 9th century, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Southeast Asia’s man-made marvels, made even more magical for Amanjiwo guests with early access before the crowds. Later, wander the mystical Menoreh Hills, where Prince Diponegoro once sought spiritual guidance and locals continue to come in search of insight.

Time on board private Yacht, ALEXA

ALEXA, Komodo National Park, Indonesia

ALEXA is truly one of a kind, designed for only two guests, but has a crew of seven, including a massage therapist, a talented private chef and a cruise director.

Over three days, adventure and relaxation unfold as you explore Komodo National Park. Sip sunset drinks or enjoy a spa treatment while sailing past turquoise waters and rugged coastlines. Snorkel among turtles, rays and coral gardens, trek Rinca’s savannah in search of Komodo dragons, and pause on soft, white-sand beaches. Evenings are spent under the stars with beach barbecues or candlelit dinners as the sun sets over Komodo’s dramatic hills.

Time on Nihi Sumba

Nihi Sumba, Indonesia

Sumba is famed for its surf, drawing visitors from around the world to ride endless sets along the sand, with group or private lessons highly recommended. Enjoy excellent dining, including the Japanese sushi bar Kaboku, or as the sun sets on your first evening, canter through the shallow waves with a local Sumbanese horseman, watching the island’s colours change. Days can be spent sunbathing, reading, stand-up paddle-boarding, swimming in the infinity pool, or joining yoga and meditation classes.

Sumba Foundation

Sumba Foundation, Nihi Sumba, Indonesia

The resort’s close relationship with the Sumbanese people has transformed the lives of the local community. You can visit a water project, a health clinic combating malaria, or spend a morning volunteering with the school lunch programme.

Hiking or Mountain-Biking to Nearby Waterfalls

Nihi Sumba, Indonesia

Hike or mountain-bike to nearby waterfalls, passing incredible birdlife along the way. Sumba is home to over 300 species, including eight found nowhere else, such as hornbills, fruit doves, button quail and paradise flycatchers.
