The carriages used on the Eastern & Oriental Express were originally built in Japan in the 1970s and later operated in New Zealand as part of the “Silver Star” service, before being transformed into one of Asia’s most iconic luxury trains in 1993, and most recently refurbished and relaunched in 2024 for a new era of luxury rail travel.
Singapore’s street food scene made history in 2016 when two hawker stalls became the first in the world to receive Michelin recognition. With a specialist food guide, explore bustling hawker centres and hidden corners of the city, tasting a selection of much-loved local dishes, including Bib Gourmand favourites. Along the way, discover the stories behind the stalls and the people whose skill and dedication have shaped Singapore’s world-renowned food culture.
Enjoy breakfast on board the Eastern & Oriental Express as it travels along the historic Jungle Railway, passing through some of Malaysia’s most remote and dramatic landscapes. Arrive at Merapoh and step into Taman Negara National Park, one of the world’s oldest rainforests, formed around 130 million years ago. Here, dense jungle, winding rivers and ancient mountains create a remarkable setting for exploration, with wildlife including hornbills, tapirs, macaques and, more rarely, the Malayan tiger.
After breakfast on board watch as the train crosses to Penang. Explore George Town through curated experiences, from Vespa tours of the Old Quarter to Peranakan food journeys and tri-shaw rides through its historic streets. Re-join the train in Butterworth for lunch and a relaxed afternoon on board, with time to unwind or visit the Dior Spa. Optionally stop in Ipoh for colonial heritage and street art before returning for dinner and onboard entertainment.
Linger over breakfast in the Dining Car on the Eastern & Oriental Express as it travels through Johor. Cross the strait into Singapore, where your Wild Malaysia journey comes to an end, leaving you with lasting memories of the landscapes and experiences along the way.
Conclude your journey with time at The Datai Langkawi, a secluded retreat set within ancient rainforest on Langkawi’s north-west coast. Here, days are shaped by nature and relaxation, with time to unwind on the beach or by the pool, explore the surrounding rainforest on guided walks, discover mangroves and wildlife, or enjoy the resort’s spa and ocean-facing dining.
