Luxury Kenya + Zanzibar

Maasai Mara + Zanzibar: Ultimate Twin Itinerary

One of the most iconic African experiences the Maasai Mara has so much to offer from incredible wildlife experiences to a rich cultural heritage. Zanzibar is the perfect place to relax following that adventure.

Experience the thrills of the Maasai Mara, with its incredibly diverse wildlife and stunning kaleidoscope of wild landscapes. Known for having one of the highest concentrations of wildlife anywhere in the world, more than 40% of Africa’s large mammals can be found here, hence it has become such an iconic safari destination.

The Swahili people along the Kenyan coast and the Bantu groups of the southeast date back to at least 3,000 BC, but this all feels like yesterday in the context of the early humans evidenced in the region some 1.2 million years ago. It’s no surprise that Kenya is known as the “Cradle of Mankind” and it’s true that you go to Africa for the wildlife but return for the people. You will hear incredible stories and meet fascinating personalities in this wonderfully welcoming country.

Today eco-tourism is central to the nation’s economy and our trips promote projects developed in conjunction with local tribes, designed to preserve the country’s natural resources and benefit local communities. While you can feel good knowing your travels are supporting the land and its people, you’ll also enjoy premium Kenyan style and comfort throughout.

Ending the trip with time in Zanzibar is the perfect chance for that beach getaway, time to relax and take in the experiences of the last few days.

LOCAL LOWDOWN

The Maasai Mara is named for the Maasai people who live there, while Mara means “spotted” and comes from the many trees that dot the landscape.

Itinerary Highlights

Nairobi, Kenya's Capital

Nairobi skyline Kenya

Start your journey in the capital city, a fascinating African metropolis to explore before heading out into the wilderness.

Game drives in the Maasai Mara

Early morning and late afternoons are typically the best times to be out spotting the wildlife of the Maasai Mara. Lions, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, cheetahs, hippos, zebras, leopards, and black rhinos are just the big-name animals you may see, in addition to this there is a myriad of creatures from antelopes to aardvarks and mongoose to baboons. Add to that the bird life and you are in for an incredible experience. If you’re there between July and October you will also have the chance to experience the migration as it passes through this corner of the Mara.

Visit a traditional Maasai village

A visit to a local community really brings to life the culture of this amazing region and is something we would highly recommend. While visiting a traditional village, a Maasai elder will give a tour and describe the history of the Maasai tribe, before members of the community demonstrate customary ways of life, traditions and dance.

Float over the Maasai Mara

Rise in the early morning for a once in a lifetime experience floating above the Maasai Mara in a hot air balloon. Watching the wildlife wake while the sun rises over the plains is the ultimate safari experience, the landscape below a never-ending mixture of riverine forests, sprawling savannahs, towering escarpments and rugged rivers.

Relax in your Zanzibar Paradise

Give yourselves time away from it all in this stunning corner of Zanzibar. A true barefoot luxury destination with tropical gardens, originally designed by Benny Andersson (yes – the Benny from ABBA!), Kilindi is a wonderful blend of cultures and the perfect spot for any getaway.
