Luxury South Africa and Uganda Itinerary

A Journey Through South Africa & Uganda

From Cape Town’s coastline and Big Five safari in the Sabi Sands to the misty forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, this carefully curated journey culminates in unforgettable wildlife encounters, including the rare experience of spending time with mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

Begin in Cape Town, exploring the colourful streets of Bo-Kaap, riding the cable car up Table Mountain and spending time in the Winelands among vineyards and cellar doors. A helicopter journey to Robben Island offers a moving insight into South Africa’s history, while the city’s galleries, restaurants and coastal scenery reveal its creative energy.

Continue to the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, sharing an unfenced border with Kruger National Park and known for some of Africa’s finest wildlife viewing. Days are spent on game drives through open bushveld in search of the Big Five, with particularly strong chances of seeing leopard alongside elephant, lion and buffalo.

In Uganda, venture into the dense rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to almost half the world’s mountain gorillas. Guided treks lead deep into the forest in search of habituated families, offering the rare opportunity to spend time observing these remarkable animals in their natural habitat. End beside Lake Victoria in Entebbe where you  canoe through the Mabamba Wetlands, home to the elusive shoebill stork and abundant birdlife.

Itinerary Highlights

Table Mountain

Table Mountain, Cape Town, South Africa

The Table Mountain cable car reveals increasingly breath-taking views over city and an endless sea, until you stand atop iconic Table Mountain. Leave the noise behind and hike away from the crowds, keeping watch for wildlife and rare plants – if you can tear your eyes from the vistas. Alternative, those feeling strong can leave the cable car and crowds behind and hike up Table Mountain Fresh coffee and home baked treats revive the body, before you head back down to sea level and hop on bikes to cruise the Sea Point Promenade.

Helicopter Journey to Robben Island

Cape Town, South Africa

A helicopter flight from the V&A Waterfront offers striking aerial views of Cape Town before landing on Robben Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped in history.

On arrival, explore the island with an expert guide, often a former political prisoner, who brings its past to life through personal insight. Visit key sites including the limestone quarry and the maximum-security prison where Nelson Mandela was held, gaining a powerful perspective on South Africa’s journey to democracy.

Game Drives in Sabi Sands Game Reserve

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Early morning game drives are especially rewarding. As the sun rises over the reserve, lions may still be active after a night of hunting, while hippos grunt from nearby waterways and the bush slowly comes to life.

Later in the day, afternoon drives head back into the wilderness as temperatures ease, when wildlife begins to stir again and golden light settles across the landscape. Guided by expert trackers, each drive reveals the subtle movements and raw drama of the wilderness, with exceptional wildlife sightings and frequent encounters with the Big Five, including some of Africa’s finest leopard viewing.

Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda

Set off with your expert guide through the dense rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, following subtle signs through misty, uneven terrain as the forest gradually reveals its hidden wildlife. When the gorillas are found, you spend an unforgettable hour in their presence, quietly observing as they feed, rest and interact within their family group, offering a rare and moving insight into life in the wild.

Mbamba Swamp

Shoebill stork, Mbamba Swamp, Uganda

Explore the Mabamba Wetlands on Lake Victoria, one of East Africa’s most important birding sites, where narrow papyrus channels open into wide marshes rich in wildlife. Glide quietly by canoe through this peaceful ecosystem in search of the elusive shoebill stork, known for its striking appearance and still, patient hunting style.

The wetlands are alive with birdlife, from kingfishers and bee-eaters to African fish eagles, jacanas and papyrus specialists, all set within a landscape of water, reeds and open sky. It is a calm, immersive experience that reveals a very different side of Uganda’s natural world.
