Sonja Schmitt

My enthusiasm for Latin America dates to my childhood. I grew up in Argentina where our family holidays involved extensive overland travels throughout South America in a VW campervan. These trips embedded an everlasting wonder of and interest in the region’s distinct cultures and landscapes, and fostered a passion for travelling that has remained with me ever since. My career has included time at a renowned Latin American Travel Specialist, where I embarked on several memorable journeys to South America, and time living and working in Buenos Aires, where my love of tango was born. I have also been fortunate enough to have lived on a tropical island in Brazil, an experience which must have been one of the happiest moments of my life. Today, I love sharing my knowledge with my clients at cazenove+loyd and creating unique, tailored adventures in my favourite part of the world.

.. immersing myself in familiar barrios and rediscovering the city I once called home. Walking down its tree–lined boulevards, exploring new sights and witnessing forgotten buildings now restored back to their former glory was a joy. The trip reminded me of all this vibrant city has to offer, with its sensational food culture, tango traditions and cosmopolitan lifestyle; I also gained a new perspective by exploring the northern suburbs, adjacent to the Río de la Plata. But what is a trip to Buenos Aires without seeing what else Argentina has to offer? Rich in magnificent natural landscapes that range from sub-tropical jungle in the north to ice caps in the frozen south, there’s something for everyone in this vast country, where a warm welcome is always guaranteed.
