Are children welcome?

Yes, children are generally welcome on Nile River cruises, but it depends on the specific boat and the type of cruise. Some points that we will consider when discussing options with you:

1. Family-Friendly Cruises

Many cruise companies, especially the larger and more popular ones, cater to families and provide family-friendly amenities, such as:

  • Children’s menus.
  • Family cabins or interconnecting rooms.
  • Activities suitable for children, such as guided tours that are not too long or strenuous.
  • Entertainment options like pool areas, game rooms, or evening shows are available.

2. Age Restrictions

Some luxury cruises may have minimum age restrictions, generally for children under the age of 6 or 12, due to the nature of the excursions or the type of experience they offer (more relaxed and quiet).

3. Excursions

Keep in mind that many Nile River cruise excursions involve visits to ancient temples and tombs, which might not always be engaging for younger children, especially those under 6 years old.

4. Private Cruises or Charters

For more flexibility, families with younger children may prefer to book a private cruise or a dahabiya (traditional Egyptian sailboat) where schedules can be adjusted, and there is more personal space for children to play and relax.

Dahabiya or Cruise?

A dahabiya is a traditional Egyptian sailing boat, smaller and more intimate than modern river cruise boats, usually accommodating around 10-20 passengers. It relies on wind or a towboat, offering a peaceful, personalised experience with flexible itineraries and access to less crowded sites along the Nile.

In contrast, a river cruise boat is a larger vessel,  and while we work with the smaller vessels these can carry 100 passengers, with modern amenities like restaurants, pools, and entertainment. River cruises follow set schedules and routes, focusing more on luxury and convenience, with a faster-paced experience than the tranquil, slower dahabiya.

How long is a Nile River Cruise?

Nile River cruises typically last between 3 to 7 nights. The most common route, from Luxor to Aswan (or vice versa), is usually 4 to 5 days.
