Why travel to Utah

Utah is a captivating destination that offers a diverse mix of dramatic landscapes, outdoor adventures and cultural experiences. Home to five iconic national parks – Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef – the state is a playground for nature lovers. Each park offers something distinct, from Zion’s towering sandstone cliffs to the hoodoo-filled amphitheatres of Bryce Canyon.

Beyond the parks, Utah’s diverse terrain caters to a variety of interests. The otherworldly Bonneville Salt Flats and the mesmerising rock formations of Monument Valley provide unforgettable photo opportunities. Meanwhile, the Wasatch Mountains offer world-class skiing, with resorts like Park City and Snowbird drawing winter sports enthusiasts.

For those seeking cultural experiences, Salt Lake City blends urban charm with Mormon heritage, while Moab attracts thrill-seekers keen to try mountain-biking or off-roading. The state’s rich Indigenous history is also worth exploring, with fascinating sites such as Bears Ears National Monument offering insights into ancient cultures.

Whether hiking through red rock canyons, marvelling at star-filled skies or discovering vibrant arts scenes in small desert towns, Utah promises adventure at every turn. Its stunning scenery, combined with endless opportunities for exploration, makes it a remarkable year-round destination.

Our highlights in Utah

Our Destination Expert’s top tip

So much of the Utah experience is visual, this is undeniably one of earth’s most spectacular regions, yet there is so much history here with evidence of human occupation dating back around 13,000 years making a great guide invaluable help in interpreting the landscapes around you.

Did you know?

In central Utah’s Fishlake National Forest lives the Trembling Giant, a single organism made up of some 47,000 genetically identical aspen trees and one root system. It’s not just one of the world’s largest living organisms, but also one of its oldest, estimated to be over 80,000 years old.

Mormon Temples

Mormon temples aren’t usually open to the public, but before a new one is dedicated, anyone can tour it during a special open house. Afterward, entry is limited to church members in good standing. Utah has more than 25 temples, with the Salt Lake Temple, completed in 1893, being the most recognisable and architecturally significant of them all.

What our clients say
My latest cazenove+loyd adventure was a return to Africa in June 2018, this time to Zambia, Victoria Falls and Botswana. The plan was for three of us but at the very last minute, my friends had to cancel. I had special attention from the staff in each camp. There was a bottle of Champagne waiting at the hotel in Victoria Falls. These are the small touches that set c+l apart.
What our clients say
The Delta was spectacular with an abundance of animals and birdlife. The highlight of this camp was the helicopter flight giving us a 'drone' perspective of the region, during which we could truly appreciate the intricacy of the multiple waterways, lagoons and vegetation. Our gorgeous chopper pilot, all the way from New Zealand, surprised us with Champagne by the edge of a massive lagoon. What a treat!
What our clients say
The highlight of the Kalahari for us was the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The food here was also outstanding, and with each meal, we were seated at a communal table. Overall, our safari was an incredible experience, made up of three very different camps, spending three nights in each and made even more special by our guides and the supporting staff at each of the camps. The care and attention to detail throughout the trip was faultless.
