Cruise icy waters beside humpbacks, fly past granite spires in a bush plane or hike with a naturalist through spruce forest. Each evening, return to a cosy lodge, warmed by firelight as the aurora borealis dances above. Our experts craft journeys that uncover Alaska’s rare wildlife, stillness and untamed beauty.

Why travel to Alaska

Alaska is a land of vast wilderness, remarkable wildlife and scenery that stirs the soul. Here, nature sets the agenda – glaciers carve into turquoise bays, mountains rise above endless forests and rivers rush through wild valleys. For wildlife lovers, the encounters are unforgettable: brown bears fishing for salmon, humpbacks bubble-net feeding in icy fjords, bald eagles soaring on mountain thermals.

Adventure comes in many forms. Kayak between drifting icebergs, trek across ancient icefields with a mountaineer, or fly in a bush plane to land on a remote gravel bar. In quieter moments, listen to the wind through the spruce, share stories with local Alaskans or bask in the long golden light of a summer evening.

In autumn and winter, the aurora borealis unfurls across frozen landscapes, casting green and violet ribbons through the night. Whether you crave heart-pounding exploration, close encounters with wildlife or the peace of untamed nature, Alaska leaves a mark that lasts a lifetime.

SUSTAINABILITY

We believe travel is precious

The world has transformed dramatically since cazenove+loyd was founded in 1993. On every trip we take, we wonder how that destination will look in another 30 years. We are passionate about our destinations and understand that it has become more important than ever to conserve their wildlife, habitats and communities for future generations.

Our highlights in Alaska

Our Destination Expert’s top tip

There is one thing you really don’t want to forget to pack on an adventure to Alaska; binoculars. At almost any point along the journey there could be wildlife spotting opportunities from orcas in a bay, bears on a riverbank or an eagle overhead, a great pair of binoculars will ensure you don’t miss it.

Active Ice

Alaska is home to more active glaciers than the rest of the inhabited world combined – over 100,000 of them. Some, like the mighty Hubbard Glacier, are still advancing, while others crack and calve dramatically into the sea.

Rub trees

Alaskan bears are known to rub against trees to do more than scratch, but also to communicate. Some trees have been used for generations, signalling their presence, size and fertility.

What our clients say
My latest cazenove+loyd adventure was a return to Africa in June 2018, this time to Zambia, Victoria Falls and Botswana. The plan was for three of us but at the very last minute, my friends had to cancel. I had special attention from the staff in each camp. There was a bottle of Champagne waiting at the hotel in Victoria Falls. These are the small touches that set c+l apart.
What our clients say
The Delta was spectacular with an abundance of animals and birdlife. The highlight of this camp was the helicopter flight giving us a 'drone' perspective of the region, during which we could truly appreciate the intricacy of the multiple waterways, lagoons and vegetation. Our gorgeous chopper pilot, all the way from New Zealand, surprised us with Champagne by the edge of a massive lagoon. What a treat!
What our clients say
The highlight of the Kalahari for us was the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. The food here was also outstanding, and with each meal, we were seated at a communal table. Overall, our safari was an incredible experience, made up of three very different camps, spending three nights in each and made even more special by our guides and the supporting staff at each of the camps. The care and attention to detail throughout the trip was faultless.
