Siquirres is a small town in Limón Province, eastern Costa Rica, often overlooked, but worth a stop for its authentic Caribbean charm and its location on the way to the region’s natural highlights. The town itself offers a glimpse of everyday life, with local markets, small cafés and a relaxed pace that contrasts with the busier Pacific coast.

The area is also a gateway to adventure and nature. Guests can access Tortuguero National Park, famous for sea turtle nesting, or the Reventazón River for rafting and watersports. White Water Rafting

The Pacuare River in Costa Rica is considered one of the world’s top white‑water rafting destinations, with a mix of Class II–IV rapids threading through rainforest canyons and past cascading waterfalls. It even hosted the 2011 Rafting World Championships.

Getting to Siquirres

The closest international airport to Siquirres is Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). From there, it’s roughly a three-and-a-half-hour drive through the Central Valley and lowland rainforest, offering a scenic introduction to Costa Rica.

OUR FAVOURITE TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit is during the dry season, from December to April, when trails, canopy walks and river activities are at their best. The green season, from May to November, is also rewarding, with lush rainforest, vibrant waterfalls and fewer guests, though afternoon showers are more frequent.
